I would agree that it looks streamlined, and not like _all_ other UI's. Loving it!

so I guess ff xii ui didn't look right either then...
I felt the same way as OP at first but its growing on me.

nothing to see here new readers, move along.
"Unbelievable wipes... indescribable failings. Whining, bitching, rage quitting - through an endless party find." - Doho, A Whole New Whorl
The only thing I will agree with is the Iron Man reference. I said the same thing to my brother this morning showing him the UI. I said it looks like the UI from the Iron Man movies when he's messing around on his computers. But not saying I don't like it. :P

I agree with OP, new UI is graphically great and smooth, but lacks of steampunk spirit (mini map does a bit) and don't match really with the environment.
Not complaining at all tho, just waiting to see and use it for real, see how menus looks and how customisable it's gonna be and after all should be ok. But from the few sshots we can see now, that "too futuristic" feeling is ticking me :/

Right now we've only seen a portion of what the new UI has to offer. So far, we've seen the action bars, character status bars (health, mp and tp), the party formation, the mini-map, the micro menu and the character creation screen. What we haven't seen yet are the actual menu's, like: Inventory, Equipment, Point Allocation, Actions & Traits, Linkshell Management, the contents of the mail box, the configuration menu, etc.
There is still so much we haven't seen yet. As far as we know, SE might even have more then 1 UI preset we haven't seen yet. (For instance, one that resembles the current UI appearence, but with the flexibility of the new UI).
On top of that (like others who've already mentioned this in this thread), the 2.0 UI would be customizable with add-on support. If you as a player don't like what the UI has to offer, you are free to change it to your liking. If you are a seasoned "modder", you might even develop an add-on which enhances certain features the game/UI has to offer.
Personally, i like the new look. It's new and fresh. Something i haven't seen in an MMO so far. I'd probably stick with this UI.
Credit goes to Niqo'te for her fabulous art in the "Nique's happy fun time!"-thread and Nix/Capa for the Caitlyn drawing to the right. \(^_^ )/
Give her your support by liking their art!

Although i did hear that you can fully customize the UI in 2.0, i actually would prefer the classic white border blue background and white text window style cause thats what final fantasy originated with starting from final fantasy IV onward. Yes the text does look very star wars-ish, but he did that to make it more visible and easy to read. Anyhow, when 2.0 comes out if anyone makes a classic final fantasy window style let me know asap!!![]()

If they make the colors customizable it'll be more than enough to take out the "futuristic". It's mostly the bright shiny neon colors that seem to push the "future" feel. Otherwise I love customizable so I'm happy all in all.
