Even if not the best example, it's pretty obvious that gameplay > graphics by a long shot.
Well I agree, what's your point? I liked my terrain textures, I liked my great looking bushes. Do I have to trade those for low resolution textures and flat bushes just to get good gameplay? Because if that's the case then I'll do it, I just don't see the reason for me having to make that tradeoff.

I wasn't arguing that we have to make that trade off, I was simply stating that graphics are a small portion of the experience. Nothing was implied beyond that statement. While I'm not as enthusiastic about the "great looking bushes", I too enjoy having my cake and being able to eat it.Well I agree, what's your point? And you're a lalafell? The bushes feel like a jungle, you can almost get lost in them!I wasn't arguing that we have to make that trade off, I was simply stating that graphics are a small portion of the experience. I will make it a point to spend at least 5 minutes of every day inside a bush.
While I agree these may not necessarily reflect improved gameplay, I think saying that 2.0 graphics are worse than current ones based on screenshots of unknown resolution is a bit premature.
Well if it's not too presumptuous of me to say, i think S.E. would show off their highest settings, not their lowest. So that emboldens me to believe these screenshots reflect what we can expect from 2.0 on release. But that's just a logical analysis of the situation. Knowing S.E., I suppose there could be an alternative situation where 2.0 has the same texture resolution and polygon count as our current game but with dynamic shadows too, but somehow I don't trust that prediction.
That's true. But you can't really judge gameplay from a screenshot. In this thread, we are just judging the screenshots, not gameplay. And from screenshots obviously 2.0 graphics are worse than current FFXIV graphics, the improved shadows notwithstanding.
