Breaking down some of the screenshots

If certain parts of the graphics are worse then they are today, that usually disappoints people.

But that ignores the benefits of the revamped system. More characters on screen at once, meaning larger scale content. More accessible to players using dated hardware. Personally I'd rather have shitty graphics in a fun game than pretty graphics in a shitty game.

That being said, these screen shots look pretty amazing considering what they were aiming for. And Yoshi's comment, 'You may want to change your character's face when you see how he/she looks in 2.0' had me worried, but no longer.
