Seriously, screw CGI. I really, REALLY want to see a gameplay video.
Today's SE's technical demo for their new engine "Luminous Studio" is here:

But few months ago CRep on JP forum has confirmed that FFXIV 2.0 DOES NOT USE Luminous Studio BECAUSE THAT IS FOR OFFLINE GAMES.
2.0 use its own engine optimized for MMO requirements.

I was under the impression FFXIV is using a completely new engine BUT it has been created in collaboration with the same group of developers who made the Luminous engine. IE not the luminous engine, but might be using technology used in Luminous but its specifically optimized for this game and its parameters.Today's SE's technical demo for their new engine "Luminous Studio" is here:

In fact I found the quote from the interview!
http://forum.finalfantasy14.eu/viewt...hp?f=20&t=1993Finalfantasy14.eu :
Is the new graphic engine, about which you’re talking, linked to the Luminous studio graphic engine, that Square Enix announced a couple of months ago?
Naoki yoshida :
We have been receiving this question a lot during the media tour, probably due to the announcement of the two consoles we made and the announce that the Luminous studio made was very close in timing . People are thinking these two are related to each other. Also because Mr. Hashimoto is related to 14 as well. However the Luminous studio engine is related to the console game, so what they are trying to achieve with that engine is to make the still graphic really beautiful, while for MMOs the most important thing is to have lots of characters and high quality graphics so the aim is slightly different. So because of that we have two different engines.
Although it’s not two different engines, the people who are working on the FFXIV graphics engine also belong to Luminious studios. So some people are working on two projects. Some of the writing/coding we use for the engines and the shader are not quite two different engines. You can consider them brothers. The engine for xiv is more focused for mmos.
here from another thread.A write up of the demo shown today, nothing super interesting but it's something!

The guy obviously hasn't played XIV at all so it's not very helpful for people like myself, who are more interested in flow of combat, but he did do a nice bit about Yoshi wanting to take all sorts of players, especially western ones, into account when designing content. And he did talk about raising chocobos to take over several roles, mage/item storage being the examples mentioned.

always looking for good people.
FUCK YES!!!! AWSOME!!!
Square Enix ur the bomb!
Who else just woke up and had their day MADE?!
This game is gonna be awsome! (even more so..)
Yeah but that doesn't mean that quality has to go down. Remember when the trees in Ul'dah were making people's GPU's melt? Something about the way this client works puts inordinate amount of strain on people's computers. They are removing crap loads of useless graphics (like the "rivers" that run underground in muntuy cellars that load even tho you can't see them) not to mention all the whacked out code that won't even let us traded items back and forth from our retainers without a 3 second wait.
If anything, I think the game might even look better
I watched Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo conferences... and of all things from E3 the most amazing thing is... FFXIV 2.0!. Absolutely stunned!
Maybe chocobos look a bit ummm... too skinny and sporty, would rather like to see them more like in FFXIII-2, soft and fluffy, like they could replace my pillow.!
Anyway great work SE!
Honestly I'm amazed it took until the 72nd post before someone mentione this.
Side Note: Will we finally be getting dynamic weather effects?
