FFXIV game won't load. Have a black box.

I tried to change to a new graphics card which didn't work. I put my old graphics card back in but somehow things got messed with on my computer during the process. Right now I can't get the game to open. I had to redownload it and it acts like I'm using a free account but I'm subscribed. I get to the point of choosing a data center, then the next screen I get is a black box and the game freezes.

Any suggestions on what to do?

    Hello,

Did you uninstall the old graphics card drivers before installing the new graphics card? Programs such as DDU will help you do so, you first need to boot into safe mode before beginning the process.

    Before you do that though:
The launcher will act as if it is a new device and begin registering it as so if it detects a change in hardware. Navigate to your documents folder and in your ffxiv folder there should be FFXIV_BOOT.cfg. Open that in a text editor and play with the settings. StartupCompleted setting to 1 or 0 might fix the issue from whatever value is set in said file. You might want to play with each of them independently. [Not near my PC to check other settings]. Alternatively, you could just delete the file while the launcher is closed and then relaunch the launcher and it should know to download it back at default values. See if that fixes it.
