Impossible to escape gold.

Its not impossible. I'm making my way through gold right now with minimal effort. I will say the matchmaking isn't great though. I had a match where I was right at gold 2 and my entire team was bronze and the other team was a mix of gold and silver....the other team straight up wasn't good, but a team full of bronze was just significantly worse lol. Even with 11 kills and doubling everyones damage there's just sometimes where you can't backpack. It is what it is, but they probably shouldn't be throwing bronze players in the mix with gold 3+ players who are actively climbing and on a win streak.

I'm mostly just annoyed that season 3 reset everyone to bronze to begin with. Its kinda why I initially didn't jump into pvp this season. I really didn't want to climb back to crystal from bronze. Starting in diamond last tier was fine, but bronze back to crystal is just.....bleh what a grind.

At least in the first bracket you can hardcarry a lot of games, once you hit plat the game gets into similar coinflip but this time it's which team gets the plats that are actually climbing and which does get the ones that got lucky streak at end of gold.

They should have put demotion all the way down to gold if that is part of the first bracket anyway. Had to spend like another 40 games to climb to Crystal which was mostly spent wrangling the clueless plat players until I started getting Diamonds which were less coinflippy about being straight up horrible or great and were for most part at the very least average. Winstreaked through most of Diamond because people could play as a team for the most part, the current system doesn't completely eliminate bad players from high ranks but at least it has filtered them down by a lot.

Absolutely worst part of the matchmaking is the adjustments to get fast games, getting a gold 1 rank up person in a game with mostly diamonds is awful. Still getting mostly plat games occasionaly in high Diamond makes it a game of guessing wheter you get a plat game where you should play something to carry it or wheter you get Dia/Crystal match where you can actually play the more team oriented Jobs.

Crystal and High Diamond is starting to fill with the regulars from the past seasons with occasional new face, which is nice.

Ranked is only interesting at the highest level for people who want to compete.

I'm seeing the names of people I would just hate to play with in Crystal games because of how bad they are. But now, instead of playing so many games that sooner or later, they reach Crystal and they stay there, now they are in Platinum 4. They could keep playing, they might get a lucky winstreak and go up to Diamond, maybe even Crystal at one point (I doubt it), but they'll go back down to Platinum 4.

Ya the matchmaking is a bit of a mess. I wish they had placement matches instead of the chaos of just throwing everyone back to the starting line. Then again I also wish ranked allowed groups and solo was unranked only.

I like all my promotion matches filled with bronze/unranked on my side vs. platinum and gold on the enemy team. Very balanced. Very fair. Very obvious the devs care about this garbage content.
