Maybe there's already an option for this and I just missed it

Strictly speaking, there is not. However, your own DoT ticks, HoT ticks, and piggyback effects (e.g., secondary heals from Clemency, Synastry, and Kardia) are coded to use source "other" rather than source "self", so they appear in pop-up text instead of flying text unless the target is "self". All your direct effects use flying text.
