DirectX fatal error 11000002

Hello, I had this issue once in a while months ago when I were doing P1Savage, it was occurring mostly when boss were punching the floor or something and then the game crashed. Then since this new patch it become IMPOSSIBLE to play as it crash with this error everytime I go in the new Storm's Crown extreme trial. I notice when it happen is often during the Extreme Boss Ultimate when she change form (high chance there) and once happened during the boss sword slash during Hair Raid. I had to give up for now as it become unplayable which is kidna depressing after all the stuff I have try to prevent it. This is what I have try:

- First thing I did were formatting pc and reinstall all new. As guessed but not hoped, the game crashed anyway with minimal stuff instaleld in my pc
- Then I searched in youtube, switching to DX9 made it worse, the game were crashing in limsa, slowly freezing at random, then crashing. On game restart I were inside the instance, noticed the floor were missing (the decorated one) and were showing the one below it. The boss aoe were just lines with no orange background within.
- I disabled discord, windows and whatever else overlay, still nothing.
- I used some programs (in this case firestorm zotac gpu program) to drop of 200mhz the gpu clock and still nothing.
- On top of this one above I have try to set gpu fan spin manual at 50% but even so, still nothing
- Changed to window mode from borderless window and still crash.
- Changed ff14 graphic settings to the lowest possible one (had around 70+ fps in 4K in limnsa) and still nothing
- Changed game audio from bass boost or whatever it was to standard.... nothing
- Apart from mouse, keyboard and xbox gamepad nothing else is connected to pc

I guess I could try disable my gskill trident z X.M.P but that would sucks badly, replace GPU thermal paste (again, I doubt is thermal I dont think gpus going above critical cause I never hear fans spinning like crazy, spinning yes if temps rise but never heard them at max spinning and I know when that happen cause is very loud)

I also noticed on top of that missing floor (read above) that days ago (when I restarted the game after a crash occurred), the side of the instance area were totally black, then had few weird square shapes on screen too before crashing or such and during the crash, just before it, the game window were freezing but I could still hear people fight and I could still hear game sounds like opening menu or something until it definitely crashed. I think I never seen anything that weird before while playing resident evil 8 (the last recent game I played).

I was checking lately multiple problems, because DirectX problems made it unable to play for me.

Of course RAM does sometime glitch and needs cleaning almost like it's done same, old way, without gold on tips, but end of ends it goes through all memtests and works.

I can tell you what ridiculous solution I've found and it seems to work.

I've disabled all unused Recording and Playback Audio devices in audio settings.
Apparently those can cause game to crash because windows sometimes has problem with choosing default for FFXIV or so. So I've disabled unused Audio devices for myself, left only those I really use - my USB Soundcard, my USB Soundcard microphone and TV speakers.
Magically everythings started working without even one crash.

Some people suggest choosing default program for FFXIV only, but I prefer to just turn off all those NVidia HD sounds and other Sonic Studio Virtual Machines, maybe it will make the problem go away in other games - just in case.

In my case I've just disabled all unused devices and it helped. I hope it will help you too.




I did not have any graphical errors tho, like you. Everything was fine until last moment.
But the error was the same. And it started happening literally the day I've changed some settings to Audio in Windows.

After it started happening I literally did all possible tests including memtest86, checking RAM, reinstalling drivers, almost everything through whole day...

Also sorry for polish screenshot, but better polish than none. You can see devices turned off with black arrows down. I suggest just for sake of testing it, trying to turn off all your unused audio devices and leaving just one turned on and set as default and active.

In your settings I can already see you have at least 2 Audio devices active.




Still I can't believe this DirectX error was happening to me due to Audio devices in windows, but it seems it was.

I can try but I think is something worse than that. Bear in mind that this images below are NOT MINE but they resemble the one I seen time ago while the game crashed.

The one above is kinda the type of screen I had during some crash, the game display freezed, I could still hear tho people continuing to fight and/or me opening menus, until few seconds later that it crashed. Sometimes happened this image above and leading my pc to reboot itself, no blue screen nothing. Also while happening this image above the sound were emitting Bzzz sounds or something like that which is hard to describe.

And artefacts... same as this image above. The outside for example of instance arenas went pixellated black, or stuff disappearing like the floor I wrote above.
in my case the outside arena ring inside instance were artefacts black and all other graphic glitches I wrote above.

I am having the same issue. The game is constantly crashing, I just had it crash on me 5 times while doing the first part of abyssos. Now I cant even watch the entire cutscene afterwards because it crashes at random intervals. After 6.2 the error was already appearing every hour or so but after the hotfix its just gotten worse.

I also did almost 4 hours of memtest86 which was 3 passes and 50% out of 4 with 0 errors (like if ram matter in dx crashes anyway, if there was blue screens then could have be, but not stupid dx shit).

I think I managed to get a fix. What I did was i changed the game to be windowed and then just played the entire cutscene normally. Then i changed it back to borderless windowed. Try doing that it seems to work for me.

Ok so yesterday I did further testing. I started MSI afterburner, setup core and memory clock down to -400mhz, changed game graphic from max settings to high laptop. I started doing 72 ppl PVP, game didn't crash once (I assume because I had people effects off), then I went Storm's Crown Normal, didn't had crashes there. So I went to continue build my isle, been hours there then decided (because looked safe) to try again Extreme Trial. While on background I had skype, discord, RGB Fusion 2.0 (gigabyte rgb program) microsoft visual studio code and msi afterburner I went in the fight. I had the whole duration of the instance without a single crash. We went out for repair, I changed back to default the graphic settings to max and the gpu memory and clock back to default. We went in again, didn't had crashes. The party disbanded, were late for EU party so I went in NA with my other character, did Extreme Trial there. The game didn't had any DX crashes in the fight for hours. Today I log in and join a extreme trial party, this time I had same programs but didn't start MSI afterburner because though didn't need anymore. And thats where I were mistaking... the fatal error happened again out of the blue. So I changed back the core and memory down to -400 and graphic to high laptop, did few more pulls then and didn't seen crashes. However party disbanded and need more testing. According to MSI afterburner, unless 75° for a GTX 1080 is high while playing at max settings I didn't seen anything overheating. My cpu can reach high ° when playing certain games and still is fine (as AMD said is normal that this cpu reach high °), but so far FFXIV didnt reach high level of temps compared to games like phantasy star online 2 NGS for example were that one can reach 88° when to many players and stuff in fights or city. I have try all solution above, included opening my gpu, clean radiator and fans from dust and changed thermal paste. Windows were formatted to new days ago. Drivers are updated because I personally went download them after unistal the one that windows installed. Aside from extreme trial, I had game freezing crashing (tho I don't remember if were direct x crash there) in P1S months ago and most of the times that crashed were during boss punching with the chain sound the floor. I'm pretty sure I can stay in my isle all day without a single crash and so I guess in limsa too despite many players. I don't think I have dx crashes in duty roulette expert for example, I never seen once there. The game is palyed borderless fullscreen, not that matter as it crashed also in windowed days ago.

Do you play FFXIV via Steam? I know that in NVIDIA control panel usually after installation Steam.exe gets adaptive power control which could cause temporary GPU power drop.


I remember that this caused an issue for me for some other games in past and had to check application settings and their power management, because GPU was simply on Adaptive settings and slowing down.

If this doesn't help, I am not sure what could cause the issue.
