Even the new Master X culinary recipes have nothing for crafters but plenty of new consumables for DPS, etc. At the same time, crafter's got a lot of new, harder recipes to craft. By comparison with DPS'ers that's like releasing new harder dungeons but without corresponding better gear - they can only use their old gear.

Now, this is not a whine thread cause I cannot craft the new recipes - have made a half dozen 610 HQ weapons and gear no problem. Just saying I would like to look under the XMAS tree and see some presents.
Pactmaker is more than enough to craft the new gear, we don't need an upgrade yet. We'll be getting one in 6.3. If you are having issues making stuff currently, fix your melds (if you aren't pentamelded to start, that's your problem) and find a macro. I'd suggest learning how to actually craft as well without them but who actually learns how to craft anymore...

.2 is always kinda lackluster for us. Some new nodes, crafted raiding gear and food and we'll get more content in .3 patch

The pattern for crafting gear has been pretty much about the same since 2.1 onwards. You can figure out the pattern and prepare for future patches.

Most crafters and gatherers actually don't want to replace their gear every patch.

    This!

We all get stuff to craft and that is the true gift.

Especially due to the cost of overmelding. That ain't cheap, and you can easily lose millions doing it.

This is where players cause problems for themselves. For crafting and gathering, materia comes almost "naturally" through Extraction when you're spending a lot of time doing the content the gear is intended for.

The start of the expansion is always rough because new materia added to the game is starting from a zero supply. By the time the x.1 patch arrives, you should be near rolling in materia.

I had very little need to buy or grind scrip for materia when it came time to pentameld my Pactmaker set because I had gotten most of what I needed through Extraction and scrip earned from weekly Custom Deliveries. I already have what I should need for the new crafted sets that will get added in 6.3 plus leftovers for doing some simple overmelding on sets I will make for my alts.

I don't even go that hardcore on crafting compared to many end game crafters. I do remember to use the Squadron Spiritbond Manuals when doing Master Crafting, and those plus the Superior Spiritbond Potion when gathering from Legendary nodes.

The only time it's going to get expensive if you're going to the effort of pentamelding but spend most of your time crafting low level recipe that don't need it. At that point, you're better off skipping the pentamelding, making easier items to sell for profit then buying the gear you want that needed the pentamelding in the first place.

Certainly there's a good feeling that comes from making all your own gear but was it worth it if it means spending 20 million on materia when the gear itself is only worth 4million less than a week after release?

If you're BIS from one patch, the odds of you having to get the new gear isn't always a given. It might make it easier but as others pointed out, it's a risky/slow progress due to remelding and RNG.

That is if you're crafting constantly. I craft when needed to get the new battle/crafting/gathering gear, more raid food and pots, and when the group is finally done raiding, I don't bother crafting anything new until the next time new gear/food/pots are available. I'd rather not make crafting a job, because then there's no fun in it.

It's not for everyone and it definitely takes a certain mindset to put up with it, even with the greater ease. If that's how you feel about it, then perhaps you should consider finding someone else to help out. There's certainly no shortage of people.

Personally, I find myself a little bored as anyone I try to help is always trying to do for themselves or they're just weird about asking for / accepting help. I generally refuse to engage the market as it's so saturated (and botted).
