I like some of the new backgrounds, but aside from that the old one was better most definitely.

I hate that I can't just use the same portrait for everything out of the box and need to update every single last jobset every single time I Fanta to stop the damned error messages on gearset switch.
When they pitched the update, I was excited.
But it still doesn't fix the one thing I wanted them to fix. They fixed some problems, added some problems, but not addressed the core, key, crucial, fundamental gripe with the portrait system.
When I set a portrait, I want that portrait to be shown. It's that simple, and they still messed that up.
I don't care what gear I am wearing now, or what gear is in the portrait, or what glamour plate I linked. All portraits for any vector of the game should work like the adventurer plate portrait, and just work. I should never have to think about a portrait again after I have made it, under any circumstance. No matter what you do, if you do not fulfill this, the system is always going to be frustrating, because a lot of people have many outfits they use for one job and that creates a lot of jank with this system that demands total adherence with a gearset.
I also prefer the way things were before. The current system feels like a downgrade. I liked being able to have multiple portraits and then choose the ones I wanted to link to gearsets. And being able to create a new portrait from an already existing one was awesome.
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D
the fact I can't click on a portrait I made and choose an option that says "use on Adventurer Plate" is the dumbest thing.
They made the portrait system worse. The fact that simply applying a different gearset to your portrait ends up resetting your pose is just nonsensical.
Yeah, makes me kinda sad you can't import your instant portraits into your adventurer plates and vice versa. I'm hoping they make these adjustments in the new future.
Not sure why the adventurer plate isn't on the list of portraits you can copy to and from. I do also kinda miss the ability to save portraits you aren't actively using.
I think it's okay. The old one was better though minus the bug/feature/whatever that kept resetting your portrait pose with seemingly inconsistent logic.
It just feels like there was a massive oversight with the new system. Why would they remove certain features like applying different saved portraits into your plate?
Also yeah I just tried doing the whole pvp instance portrait thing and it's buggy with it keep reverting to default despite me constantly trying to set it as instance.
The new system itself isn't intuitive at all. I seriously hope they fixed this come 6.25 but right now I'm just super bummed that the whole thing became a mess. I was really looking forward to what I assumed that we could link portraits to gear sets and that it would automatically update your plate portrait.

Wait it still does that? So they didn't even fix the bug that was likely the major reason for the rework?
IIRC it was something like "People didn't understand how it works, so we made it simpler." I understood the system, I didn't understand why it kept displaying the default portrait all the time in PvP matches.
