Why are English-speaking people defending expressions of racism and xenophobia from other countries? Many other online games are cracking down on racist expressions. FFXIV was supposed to be less toxic than they are. We want to go backwards while everyone else is moving forward?

This issue shows less about Japanese values towards racism and xenophobia and more about OUR own values. If we accept it over there, what’s stopping us from accepting it here at home too?

The fact that most naysayers aren’t even calling it a mistranslation is also concerning. They’re outright defending the nature of expression even if it didn’t actually happen. Which leads to a more unsettling thought: if it didn’t happen, would you wish that it did?
