So, yes, they are not the same thing. But... When the end result, for the person targeted, is
exactly the same, it's a difference that makes no difference.

Well then, at least historically, Japan was never racist or xenophobic.

From what I've read, the Japanese effort to conquer Asia during WW2 wasn't rooted in a hatred of foreigners, but rather in the idea that the Japanese as a people were superior, and therefor they had a duty to lead the other people of Asia to peace and prosperity.

Sort of like the "White Man's Burden" philosophy England used to justify expanding the British Empire.

Feeling you are superior isn't correlated with hatred. If it was, I'd hate almost everyone.

On the first thing, that's less a different thing from racism and more an attempted justification for it.

On the second thing... MAYBE. Ina purely hypothetical sense, MAYBE feeling superior doesn't automatically
correspond to hate. Human nature being what it is, though, that's ALWAYS where it eventually leads. To use
your own example about Japan's motivations for the war (which is also inaccurate, the Japanese military used
the ancient Shinto prophecy as their excuse, but it was really about securing natural resources they didn't
have in their own land, without having to pay for them, but for our purposes here I'll use your answer) even
if the Japanese people of that era thought they were helping others, look at how they treated those others:
The second world war Japanese military was as vicious to captured Chinese and Korean people as the Nazis
were to Jewish people (and many others) Seeing other people as inferior is a form of hate. And as Yoda said,
    'hate leads to suffering.'

Are all Americans to blame for that? Did most of them even know about it?
    Did you?

Um, what does that have to do with 731 again? EVERY nation has done some questionable things. It's just trendy to kick a nation like america when it's down. I get it, I love a good dog pile as well! lol

The second sentence was exactly what it has to do with 731 ...
... which makes me wonder why you had to ask the question of the first sentence.
Are you just looking to argue?

It had nothing to do with what Izar was saying, like at all though. Your reply is just deflection. At the minimum saying that the Japanese has never been "historically racist or xenophobic" is hilariously ignorant and at worst it's straight up revisionist history lol.

The Americans have their own black marks on their history , including their involvement with the 731 group after the war ended .

Regardless , that doesn't not change what the Japanese did with its science division , nor the horrendous treatment by the Japanese imperial army to the Chinese (especially women) during their vicious occupation of china , which brings us back to your comment that "the Japanese effort to conquer Asia during WW2 wasn't rooted in a hatred of foreigners, but rather in the idea that the Japanese as a people were superior, and therefor they had a duty to lead the other people of Asia to peace and prosperity" which is utterly ridiculous.

They used their superiority complex as justification to treat the Chinese like animals not to show them peace and prosperity.
