Where Are All of the Keepers of the Moon!?

I've gone through the main story twice and I'm now going through my third run through and I've started to notice something.

Keepers of the Moon barely exist. I was already aware that there is VERY little lore on them shared in game, but as I've moved through the game I've realized that it's not just a question of lore but presence.

Just about every single Miqo'te I have run across is a Seeker of the Sun. Young or old, civilian or soldier and I'm not just talking about Miqo'te with any relevance to the plot. Practically everyone from random Miqo'te walking about to shop keepers are Seekers.

On the one hand, I'm aware that the lore places most of their population in Gridania, there's no good explanation as to why Seekers came to be found all over the place and Keepers in just this one small section of the entire planet. What's even more confusing is that this great disparity even exists in Shadowbringers where such a consideration wouldn't even factor in.

So where are they? Am I missing something here? Am I mistaken in how rare it is to see a Keeper in the greater world? This would honestly be less frustrating if there was any lore what so ever explaining their absence beyond just saying that most resettled in the Black Shroud. Compared to the Seekers, it really feels like they barely exist between both game presence and lore. It's frustrating and I really hope there's something I've been missing.

I know you are talking about NPCs but I'm a Keeper of the Moon

Now that I think about it, I don't really recall seeing any Keepers either. Though it has been years since I did the earlier stories so I wouldn't remember every npc anyway.

While many Seekers, especially in Limsa Lominsa, have melted into the overall Eorzean culture, Keepers keep to themselves and only live in the Shroud. It also doesn't help that the 1 city-state they're familiar with is in conflict with them and only "of late" have some integrated into Gridanian culture. The same irritating problem extends to the Duskwight Elezen.

As for the First, their whole world evolved on a different path from our own so it wouldn't be completely expected for them to have the same sub-races we do on the Source. There still are black-horned and white-horned Drahn, but the difference seems to be nobility vs commoners. The most interesting thing I found on a day I was REALLY bored, was when I counted up all of the Mystel on the First and found that there's an almost equal number of males to females. So Miqo'te on the Source have a gender imbalance but the similar race on the First does not.

this lore video will explain it. Not entirely perfect but it does cover everything you need to know about both Sun and moon tribe of the Miqo'te from their homes, traditions, and actions.

As for the answer to your question in shorter detail, it is because the Keeper of the Moon tribes are more secretive than the Keeper of the Sun tribes.

Their tribes are always hidden in the Black Shroud in locations that cannot be easily reached to outsiders and have a matriarchal society.

Re. Shadowbringers, there seemed to be a bias toward the "dark" clans like Duskwight and The Lost being used for the Night's Blessed, though I can't remember if there were any Mystel in the group.

Overall I don't think they used the secondary clans much at all. Definitely no separate cultures or naming schemes.

not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but...

Scarmiglione is depicted as a moonkeeper prior to the Flood of Darkness

As much as I complain about how short-changed Duskwight are, it's only something we notice because the Duskwight homeland and their modern discrimination is brought up just enough times for you to notice they never do anything with it. In terms of subraces around since launch, the mooncats genuinely are the one with the least representation in NPCs.

The only mooncat lore I can remember in-game comes from small bits in the archer class story. And even that focuses more on the elezen (whose name escapes me right now).

Otherwise, the most noteworthy mooncat NPC I can think of is......Khloe Aliapoh. The kitten who hands out Wondrous Tails.

    Moon Keeper lore is sparse.

The latest Rising questline feature a male Miqo'te. He talks about how he used to live in Gridania, but fled to the mountains with his sister to seek refuge after the Calamity. We don't really know where these mountains are in the Black Shroud

There's a Delivery moogle quest that deal with how Keepers are treated in Gridania, the Coeurl King and a bit of their culture. We learn that males don't stay in a village too long before moving on and that's how they performed it.

We learn a bit from the Archer quest.
