Dear Square Enix, let's talk about racial traits?

This has been happening since ARR.

In 1.0 through 2.0, armor had actual holes for tails and specialized bits for ears.

The first thing that went away were the tail holes, and they just accepted that the tails would clip straight through whatever they made, fitted to the tailless Hyur.

Someone down the line decided that making a whole separate model for the body piece was a waste of resources just for a single race and they started to get phased out in the subsequent ARR patches. And then ears started to go away in ShB. Sometimes they come out with special pieces like the ShB dragoon armor with an armored tail like the darklight armor had in 1.0 for Miqo'te, but it's rare that happens. A part of me wants to blame the new races since they started getting lazy right before or at the point a new race was released but it could be a coincidence and just the result of a directive made at the same time to spend less resources on that.

The problem isn't the new races. They started going into full production on FF16 right around the time ShB was being made. FF14 has been phoned in since then on almost every aspect except the MSQ. They cut out a dungeon every patch, they stopped including racial traits in armor, they reused more gear, they've increased the time between patches, etc. etc.

I think it's not hard to come to conclusion that CBU3 is just prioritizing their other game right now at the expense of this one.

Thank you so much for making this post.(This post is the reason for me to finally post on the forums instead of just lurking) As my FC members would be able to attest I am always complaining when I find a hat that cuts off my ears. I adore the new crafted hats for scouting, striking, and casting.....except they cut off my ears.(And let's not forget that Viera with that same model....Keep their ears. It's shown in the preview pic of the crafted armour they shared.) And I just can not stand that. I'm a Miqo'te! If the hat is tall and wide enough they would fit comfortably(i.e. NOT flat against my character's head) underneath it's....eh. If the hat is cute enough I won't be too against it in that situation. So many times though one of my FC mates will share a pic of this new cute hat on their au ra or other race and the fact we've hit point where they share it but are aware that while I'll find it cute it will probably cut off my ears making it not a viable option for me appearance wise is kind of horrible.(There's a reason I guessed almost immediately what race the character in the picture you used was and turned out to be right) I plan on leveling reaper but I doubt I'll ever actually use it after getting it to max because of the way enshroud takes away all my racial features. If I wanted to be playing a character without ears or tail I'd hop over to one of my Hyur alts for a while. But I don't want to do that. I want to be my proud Miqo'te Main self and have that be seen and known without someone having to search for if I have a tail or not! And on that same vein, while I am often upset by my ears getting chopped off it's also ridiculous that SE doesn't put aside the time to ensure that the Job Gear released with/after Viera and Hrothgar had hats that worked with them. Some people would consider the Red Mage hats an iconic part of the Red Mage look and yet Viera and Hrothgar can't wear them. I can understand to a degree not making all the old gear compatible, it's a slog, it's time-consuming. I get that. But gear made with and after the races were created not working is ridiculous. And let's not forget how we have events where if you're a viera or hrothgar without a house your reward is...basically nothing. ~coughheavensturncough~ When the reward is a hat that they can't wear and a housing item? What's the point? You can do better, SE. I know you can. Stop giving us gear that tries to make some of us into Hyur clones when we don't want to be.

It's been a trend since the start of Shadowbringers sadly.

There is headgear that is really similar to ARR pieces and don't have ears, yet the ARR ones do. It is really disappointing.

You'd think the game would be putting more time into details like these, not less.

in fairness a lot of people asked them to remove the ear pieces on hats and to hide the tails . you cant please everyone
though why bother playing miqo without those traits tbh

Today I learned on twitter that SE added ears to some models of Hrothgar's helmets in this update. I believe it is due to the 6.1 hair complaint



This makes me come to the following conclusions:

1) SE is testing what it can simply delete from the game, and if it doesn't generate complaints, it cuts.

2) Since SE did this on SHB with the miqo'tes and there were no severe complaints, they've moved on to making it a rule now.

I say this because the situation of the miqo'tes only got worse, where before there were some helmets, now practically all of them remove their ears.

It worries me, because if it continues like this, the trend is that helmets will never be shaped for the races again, they will only use the Hyur model for all.

Wish they would enable a toggle for those that want to do those things. I like the look of some of the Moonward gear, but since it hides my tail I don't go for it.

Brah, they don't even do helms with a /visor option anymore. You are arguing with a brick wall, the devs are going to do what they do, nothing more. lol

The sad part is that a big part of this game is fashion and customization, much more than other MMOs imo. They should care a lot more about this...

exactly. And what scares me the most is that they said they were surprised by the public reaction when they removed Hrothgar's ears. It shows that they have no idea who their community is.

Of course they had no idea, they looked at the JP community and they're like 90% potatos.
