Tenka Goken is not an auto-crit, neither is the Kaeshi version of it. Ogi Namikiri and Midare (along with their Kaeshi counterparts) are the only guaranteed crit abilities for SAM.

Also, quoting directly from the patch notes: "When under an effect that increases the chance to land a critical hit or direct hit, actions that are guaranteed to land a critical hit or direct hit will now deal increased damage. When executing actions that are guaranteed to land a critical hit or direct hit, they will now deal increased damage based on the direct hit rate and critical hit rate attributes."

Guaranteed critical hit abilities did not always derive additional damage from these stats, this was a change added in 6.2. So we should notice some kind of difference whether we're practicing on a dummy or in a party with external crit buffs. But Midare still hits like a wet noodle compared to how it was before Kaiten got axed. I don't really care whether SAM is topping DPS charts relative to other jobs because I don't look at them, I only look at my own numbers and see that SAM used to have amazing spikes of damage that made these big abilities feel like they were worth the time they took to build up to. And now it doesn't.

Samurai still performs numerically, and that's enough.

Or is it? Plays watered down, is less popular than the other melee now with its changes. Lost the feel of big swings in favor of wildly flailing a sword about. Mashing that shinten button and all that. Exciting. But hey, at least the wet fart is stinkier now, but only slightly?

Seriously though, job is far from dead. The identity it used to have definitely is dead, but the job itself still is "fine enough", is the best I can put it. However, I choose to remember what it once was, and never touch it again until it gets changed away from this iteration. That being said, SE's response (or lack thereof) is a troubling thing. People may troll samurais about their job's changes (why, I don't even know), but if this is a sign of how SE chooses to approach job balance, then we should be worried about what the future holds. I'm lookin' at you dragoon and astrologian, because you two are next in line for your "improvement".

As for you people who feel the need to mock samurai players, don't look for pity when your slice of fun is up on the chopping block. Because it definitely will happen with the way things are going balance wise.

I was sincere when I told you to get lost, pathetic parody of a wine enjoyer. You're exactly at the worst spot on the Dunning Kruger curve.

Never am I going to say the job is bad numerically. That's just factually not true. But the flow has shifted, while slight, it's enough so that most who knew the job well enough notice it and that's where one of my main gripes about the changes are.

Also, I'm still wondering where the heck they take their feedback from because small potency increase is not what we have all been clamoring about. The whole kit feels odd to use, aoe is just an egregious mess, but potency was not the real problem.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Job's fine numerically, and that's all they care about. I played the job from Stormblood to 6.1, so yeah, I can regale you with how much I loved the old flow. It's really why I hate what its become, the "wildly flailing a katana around".

Otherwise, I'd be playing it still. Now? My katana's gone to rest and likely wont ever be used again. Maybe when they end up changing the abomination from what it is now, but you know, that wont be until 7.0 at the very least. Still what, two years, give or take? Better to just move on.

It's been my main since I unlocked it during 4.2

I joined the game officially in 4.1 so I'm well aware of how SAM has been up to now. But I guess I'm a tank main for the remainder of the xpac now.

So essentially SAM got nerfed when not paired with jobs like BRD or SCH that increase crit or DH. Just like BRD and MCH/DRG had to always be paired together in the past for piercing debuff, or tanks with WAR/NIN for slashing debuff.

This class bias from other mains really needs to stop and be looked at objectively. A change was planned, and people did not want it. They asked to try it and give feedback, so reluctantly samurais did and still hated it, they did absolutely nothing with the feedback and consistently and ACTIVELY tried to sweep the discussion under the rug.

We all pay monthly for this game, as customers it is our right to voice our dissatisfaction with their product. Because if they act this way for SAM, and have BEEN acting this way for other jobs, what makes you think you're safe because your main hasn't been touched yet?

That's what pisses me off the most, the complete disregard to all of the backlash. They didn't address it in either of the live letters and its extremely frustrating despite that we know they know they screwed up due to them delaying the changes to DRG and AST.

Honestly I'm not even sure if they check the forums for feedback. There isn't a forum dedicated to giving in game feedback and this forum doesn't seem like the proper place for feedback either, but I could be wrong.
