I'm hoping this is preliminary before they add more stuff to the mix, perhaps more landmarks, more interesting things to put in. Example, imagine them adding a craftshop that can craft you older endgame stuff, always 2 patches behind. Like one that could (currently) craft you Grade 9 Master Recipe stuff, assuming you've made it once before. Not in large quantities, but you can set it up to make say, up to 20 of a HQ mat a day, 5 food items a day (giving you 15 of it), 1 crafted piece of gear a day, etc. Or a lounge area extension of the Comfy Cabin that has a bed you can log out from, a minigame box, and a few minigames from the Gold Saucer (you can only have 2 of them). You know, things that really make you think on what you want to keep or replace. You can add some comforts at the cost of being able to get mats/seafarer's due to replacing granaries/workshops.

I just unlocked and did my island today (Rank 5).

    1) I really dislike that expanding your base (and hire mammets to gather) requires Sea Cowries while Island Cowries is entirely useless to the island's progress.

    2) Switching modes between Free, Gather, and Capture is fine. But I hope they do something to merge the Feed, Pet and Beckon, as well the crop actions too.

    3) There are too many mammets loitering outside. I'd like to hide them or congregate them somewhere in 1 place, out of sight. I can't even see my minions due to mammets being bigger than the latter. +1 on Lopporits would be a better choice in assisting us with the island.

A few things that I hope they'll add in the future:
    - The ability to dye our facilities. If we're stuck having the same things as everybody else, at least let us change the colors.
    - Allows multiple of the same minion released. I want an army of Serpent of Ronkas on my island!

I feel like Island Crowries should be what you spend for the services of the mammets on the island. Want to buy those seeds, or use the automated services of the mammets? Gotta use Island Cowries.

Honestly, and this is just my armchair-warrior take on it… if I were designing this thing (and what I was expecting it to be):

    1) Take notes on what makes games like Stardew/Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing successful. It isn’t really just about development, but interrelations with characters. Seeing how or what they are doing day to day.

To this, I would honestly have copied Breath of Fire (snes era), where you actively go look for NPCs in the open world to recruit to your island. This would/should/could include favorites like Gerolt, but it could easily have included really any named NPCs from anywhere that was part of any minor storyline that is no longer important. Beast tribe reps/friends even. Make a pool of like…50 minor NPCs that we can pick and choose from to build a small settlement.

    2) Have the npc’s role effect the island (so recruit a smith, get more production; recruit a carpenter, buildings get built faster;gardener maybe they auto plant/water stuff; laborer can be assigned to just auto gather resources).

    3) have a simple tech tree we can work towards, but not able to unlock everything. Similar to training your squadron, you would be able to focus on adventure/wilderness (“gramping”, more green, natural, simple), commercial (more resort/curated/manicured look) or productive (agricultural farming, mine operations). Would be able to move back and forth/change inhabitants..but ultimately you’d settle on your own island with the buildings that support what you want to do with it.

Myself, I would have done a mix of wild/commercial with a beach bungalow and a open air bar if I could have. Currently there is just zero reason to check out a friends island to see what they did with it.

3 identical factory churning workshops and 2 identical stockyards is not really my idea of a sanctuary…also if we are gonna have a bathhouse..why is it not in the center of town… and where is the hotel my guests can crash at? Even a yurt would do!

    ——

I guess I am hoping they make the core loop better/more refined (like rank 5 replace basic tools to get like 3-5 resources per node), and maybe at rank 10 we have developed enough to pack up the mammets and turn the island into a legit resort/hotel/camp area/whatever we wanted.

Recruiting NPCs would be the perfect opportunity for a WoW crossover so we can stuff Lantresor into a brand new mining shaft 8')

On one hand, I'd rather see loporitts than mammets, but on the other hand, they'd be a big spoiler for lower-level players visiting a friend's island.

I'd rather see Lominsan settlers than either loporrits or mammets. That would have made more sense considering Merlwyb's goals.

Man, I never seem to have enough island logs, am I missing a nice easily farmable cluster of them somewhere?

Just after the first pond as you enter the gathering area on the left is a wide ring of trees. Apple and Log. It's about a 20-30 second circuit depending on how button mashey you wanna be but it's where I grind logs. Get trees on the hill, grab a couple hits of rocks on the way back towards the pond and it resets the trees.

Generally the gathering log shows you the "best" area to gather whatever resource.

Nodes automatically respawn after clearing ten, in the same order they were cleared. Just find a spot with a decent amount of trees and clear everything nearby to keep them spawning.
