Upon relogging into the game, gearset does not reflect the job I have selected

Steps: The last time this issue happened to me
1. I did a dungeon as warrior, completed and left the duty, logged out to edit a video
2. Logged back in, I was still on the warrior job but my gear set was displayed as my scholar gear set both on the right hand side and at the top above my character profile
3. I did not notice this at first, and I was extracting materia so I updated my gear set and it replaced my scholar gear set as a duplicate warrior gear set
4. I had to manually re-equip my scholar gear and update the gear set again to fix this

This has been a problem for me since the pre-expansion patches in shadowbringers. It was not a problem when shadowbringers launched nor has it ever been a problem before that time. I should add that before I did this dungeon as warrior, I done a dungeon previously as scholar. I think that is why the scholar gear set was displayed when I logged back on (despite me still being on warrior)

You can clearly see that the game says my selected gear set is scholar, yet somehow I am still playing as a warrior.

I should add that I have asked multiple players if they ever had this happen, and none of them did. So I am actually unsure if this is a bug, or something wrong with my game settings. If anyone knows why this is happening, I would appreciate if you could help me out.

It happens to me all the time when I first equip a main hand of a new class.

For example, while on CNJ, I might equip a Lvl 1 needle to start the Weaver class and then (by habit) hit the update-gearset button. Fortunately, the game warns me that I am about to overwrite the CNJ gearset.
So I cancel, open the gear set box, and hit the "+" on the top left to create the new Weaver gearset.
This happens to me every time I start leveling a new alt and picking up all the crafting classes.

For the brief period between when I equip the needle and save the new gearset, the game thinks I am using a gearset named "Conjurer" even though I am a Weaver.

The thing is, I have not switched my main hand at all. I have been using the same gear for warrior (pentamelded classical) since the gear first came out. And my scholar gear has not been touched for weeks either. I have played this game for over 3 years and this only started happening around the pre-endwalker patches in shadowbringers. From heavensward to mid shadowbringers I never had this issue once then all of a sudden one day it happened and continues to happen randomly every now and again.

The only form of touching gear I have done, is extracting materia via spiritbonding and then updating the gear set after I am finished extracting (i instinctively press the update gear button whenever I see the prompt) but I can't see that causing the problem considering there has been many instances where I have not extracted any materias at all and it still happened

This is pure speculation, but I think I may have figured out why this is happening

1. this issue started happening around the time I was progging tea (close to May last year), which was also around the time asmongold started streaming ffxiv and the game got a huge spike in players
2. it would make sense that under heavy load, there will be more packet loss in the server
3. it would also make sense that, if packet loss occurs when i am switching character the server may not register that I have switched character while the client would register it (and save it in the game files)

i am uncertain the game works this way, but assuming it does then that might be the problem

In order to determine if this is indeed the problem I would need to know if your selected gear set in gui gets saved to the server, while the job you are actually playing gets saved in the game files. If the game does indeed work this way, then I think this is causing the problem and an easy fix would be to either have selected gear sets saved to client rather than server and just have the server retrieve this data when you login or alternatively have the job you are playing saved to the server and then have the client retrieve that data when you login

I don't think it would be affected by heavy load or that heavy load would cause the server to experience packet loss, just packet congestion. There is a system in networking that tracks and resends packets that get lost. Even if that had happened, the game is not that congested right now.

Heavy load does affect the display of the gear, especially if you use a HDD instead of an SSD because it has to load the assets for the new gearset, which takes a lot of time if you are loading lots of other people in Limsa Lominsa.

The gearset feature was adjusted about that long ago so that gearset names are separated from item level, but I don't know if that would affect the job symbol displayed.

The gear you are wearing and the job you are playing is saved to the server and the gearsets are on your computer.

then it seems like this is indeed a bug, maybe an isolated bug that is only happening on my account specifically

another theory I had is perhaps i am entering duties too quickly after changing jobs, and it kind of screws up in the server somewhere when I do this. my client appears as normal, but the server saves it differently and upon relogging into the game what the server had saved displays.

if thats also not possible, then I cannot think of any other explanation to why this could be happening, and it must be a bug

What I was saying was that it must be a client issue rather than a server issue.

You were a warrior, you logged out a warrior in warrior gear, and you logged in a warrior with warrior gear, so the server did its job.

The issue seems to be that the gearset change to warrior was not saved to the client on your PS4. It could be corrupt setting files on your PS4, but usually this causes a game crash.

It could be a bug with the PS4 version if other people on PS4 have experienced it, or it could just be an unfortunate corruption of your gearset settings that happened at some point, such as during a power cut, an abrupt shutdown or game exit, or the gearset change patch couldn't work with your existing settings. There were some changes to make the game work for PS5 which could have had an effect as well.
