Was it updated in recent history or something? I'm not aware of any, but Holminster Switch was always one of those dungeons that made you put everything you've learned to the test. Tanks need to know how to pace out their cd's, healers need to know when to focus heal and when to damage, and dps need to have learned their rotation. If any one falls short in either of these aspects, then it's best to take it slow. Even then, small pulls can still hit hard.
Heck, even the dungeon right after it will make you have to pay attention, otherwise the enemies will be buffed and will hit harder. It's common for tanks to use their Invuln on the first big pull because they don't realize they need to use Interject.
Holminster switch is basically the only MSQ dungeon skill check left in the game, if you get cure 1 spammers or no mitigation tanks or freestyle DPS you are going to have a bad time
It’s one of the few good dungeons they have made in recent history
What Snow says.
Holminster was always notorious and filled up quite a few pages of the TftDF thread with some delicious horror stories.
A bit like Vault and Bardam's.
It has some spicy pulls when going wall to wall and the bosses have decently high party damage at a good rhythm so all in all everyone has to do a bit more than Netflix afk or push random buttons to make it a smooth run.
It's also one of the few dungeons where you really notice that DPS are not nearly as useless as people like to say. A pull dragging on for too long has a good chance to end with a wipe.
The difficulty wouldn't be noticeable if most other dungeons weren't significantly easier. It's just the spike that catches netflixers off guard.
Context, context, context. Were you doing it after queuing up, with 3 random people? Were you in a trust? What class were you when going through? If in a trust, did you move out of AoE markers like the 'experienced' members you chose for the trust run?
40 minutes is not unheard of in that dungeon, given the number of mobs and the relatively high damage required to eliminate them. That's via Trusts, mind you, as a DPS. It can go faster if you have three level 90s in the party, not so fast if the majority of players have just hit level 81 and still have iLevel 80 normal HQ gear (not that fun stuff for level 80s you get from boosting or tomestones, mind you)
People that are not in mostly ilvl 400 gear can severely slow progress, especially if the tank and healer are unable to handle double packs. Tower of Zot suffers from this as well.
