They can easily add a trait that increases their physical defense and max HP if survivability for them is an issue.It'd be nice, but I suspect anything that falls outside the current gear framework would be very unlikely. The problem being, currently no gear exists that would suit their stat needs. Sharing caster gear would leave them defensively weak, presumably undesirable for melee jobs, and there are no other gear options with a caster's main stat, STR being unlikely to "fit" for any magic DPS.
Same reason why I wouldn't expect any magic-based tanks or physical healers.
