    You cannot have an infinite amount of instances and, if you are AFK, you clearly aren't using that instance for something, so might as well free it up.

    I don't think the hardware is the issue, it's more likely that when they remade the game for ARR they had to cut a lot of corners to get the game out in time and it's coming back to bite them now. For example the way their database for items functions and the massive issues it is causing when it comes to inventory expansion and the glamour dresser.

    Or they don't want people to literally hog every server space in the existence like what happened at the launch of Endwalker when everyone was circumventing AFK timers in houses/apartments You can't just infinitely make instances no matter how good the servers are
