A lot of new player reactions when he shows up tend be along the lines of "Oh it's that dude everyone is obsessed with!" so yeah I think it's fine. It's all about the labelling. There's nothing inherently spoilery about the fact that Garlemald has an Emperor Solus and that this is a model of how he looked as a young man. There's already a portrait to the same effect.
It only gets hazy in conbination with other spoilers or talk from the fandom.
Slightly disappointed it's not called Mammet-Selch but I guess this is a slightly less spoilers name.

The bird let out a slow chicken cackle. It sounded like a chicken, but in her heart she knew it wasn't. In that instant, she completely understood the concept of a chicken that was not a chicken. This looked like a chicken, like most of the Mud People's chickens. But this was no chicken.
This was evil manifest.
Sorry, had a Sword of Truth flashback for a minute there.....

Solus is in fact part of the storyline even in ARR; he's the Garlean emperor in 1.x and even in ARR, only passing away in the post-Praetorium storyline, if I recall right. At which point there is a succession crisis; Solus' grandson (Varis, at the time the High Legatus of the first legion) and Solus' youngest son started a civil war over who would get the crown. And in the end Varis wins -- thus why he's the emperor we deal with later.
I swear I remember a cutscene in the post-ARR slog where Varis literally walks up and spits vindictively on Solus' casket.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

A bit disappointed myself, tbh. Not that we're getting it or anything. Just, isn't something I can share with lowbie friends to draw them back to the game.
"Hey, the anniversary event is coming up, and that's usually pretty neat. Oh... but this time all you get is a minion of someone that means nothing to you yet..."

I really don't understand the obsession with the character, but cool.

That cut scene does happen I believe I'd have to watch again but it's either him spitting or him staring angrily at the casketSolus is in fact part of the storyline even in ARR; he's the Garlean emperor in 1.x and even in ARR, only passing away in the post-Praetorium storyline, if I recall right.
