I get the OP's point. There are things that are uncomfortable for people in different ways. Most things I just kind of go through (and I'm a pretty stringent introvert, so dancing on stage is low-key terrifying), but I could see how someone with experience with the sex trade as a victim (or knowing victims) might feel particularly uncomfortable.

My answer to that in this case would be, "So you understand how vile this place and Vauthry are, which will make trouncing him all the more justified in the end".

Bad things happen irl and in fiction. Some of them can feel "too real" to some people. But it is still fiction, and it's to paint the picture of evil, and few things would do so better. So that's what I'd say to it and kind of just plow through. Good luck to you, OP!

You make a great point here. Recently I played Ghost of Tsushima and there was a quest line that pretty much broke me for an entire day, because the people and situations involved were all too similar to something I experienced very recently. But I also knew that it was fiction and I was able to go back to it after taking a break. Things can feel very real in the moment, but it's definitely best to remember that these are just stories, and the feeling doesn't last forever. Like you said, the whole thing with Eulmore and Vauthry made defeating him that much sweeter. Uncomfortable situations are design to make people feel something, and they usually serve a greater purpose in a narrative.

Going by this train of logic wouldn't players who dress in glamour that offend you not be okay as well? Because if so, then I have a list I need to knock out! :^D

As someone who was often called/basically is a SJW, I kinda feel their comment is more a parody of such behaviour rather then a proper examination of how offensive said material is.

As others have said there are events in fiction which can be triggering to people, and I think in extreme cases there can be cause for say, non-spoiler potential warnings (Like how some horror games have them when you first load) but these really does not feel like one of these occasions. At the least its your character doing a embarrassing thing, at worst it show just how humiliating a place Eulmore can be and helps feed into the narratives message in a way I do not feel is exploitative at all.

I got how vile the place was by walking in and looking around.

And there are other things that are much better indicators: Tristol's tale; the fate of the singer; Kai-Shirr bleeding on the floor; the reveal of what meol is and where they're getting it from. All of those things create a feeling of horror towards Eulmore for me.

My character being forced to dance just makes me feel annoyance at the devs for not making it a sidequest. It doesn't even feel like it should sit with the other things at all – it wasn't played darkly and we had nothing actually requiring us to do it. Just to get some basic gossip about the city from one guy when we could have moved on to anyone else.

That isn't logically equivalent at all. Even the OP makes no mention of being offended by the NPC dancers (ie. glamoured players in your analogy). They just don't want the game to force them to do it too.

If that's on par in your mind with the performers in the Beehive... I really don't want to know.
I explicitly seem to recall the Sylphs dance requirement and the Eulmoran dance requirement both being /dance which is the emote for each race's cultural dance.

/beesknees at the local stripper pole is not required to progress the quest, and it actually fails to trigger the quest progression flag. So.... no, I think OP is making a mountain of a molehill. I CAN see where others being offended at this turn of events are coming from, I merely disagree.

Yeah, the point is if you apply any semblance of logic to this scenario you'll realize you have no ground to get offended. The WoL was quite explicitly NOT coerced into their stripper glam they typically reserve for Castrum and Prae and forced to /beesknees at ye olde stripper pole for a nobleman's sexual gratification in exchange for info. You can interpret it that way, sure. But there's just as much evidence to posit that this is not quite what's happening here.

Walk around Limsa or the Quicksand for a bit and you won't have to wonder.
