Who looks at their controller buttons?

why do you feel the need to argue against expanding a UI feature thats already in the game? Not everybody plays the exact same as you. I can see no downsides to adding another option to the layout dropdown that they already have.

I'm agreeing with Biggie here. While I generally have been able to get around this over time, having your visible button layout on screen match what you have on controller (especially when it is a controller you are intending to use frequently) is a great aid.
I'm noticing this issue on occasion using my Switch Pro controller in games that at most offer the ABXY layout for XBOX button mapping, which can confuse me how I'm supposed to bind properly like in Tales of Arise for example.
The requested feature is literally just a third option of an existing system with a slightly altered UI layer for the ABXY buttons, so I'm not sure why ppl say "lol it is a non-issue for me" like it is actually a non-issue to add it in the first place.

The face buttons are not always shown all four together. When navigating the interface, they often appear one alone. For example, the game will display a blue X button but the button on a switch controller would be Y. Further, changing the button binds wouldn't help at all because then the game will accept the X button input but it'll display a yellow Y everywhere.
Being able to play without looking at your controller is a useless skill if the game constantly tells you to press the wrong button.

Exactly. And also everyone with a switch controller also owns a switch. It's dumb to ask people to unlearn their switch muscle memory so that they can play ff14. Switching (^_^) between PC with controller and playing console games should be just as easy as it is for PS and xbox users. The face buttons are not always shown all four together. I'm not saying this shouldn't be added, but presumably people are playing now without the Nintendo prompts. There are only 4 menu buttons with pretty consistent functions. One only confirms and one only cancels (as far as I remember), one us a map and submenu, and one is jump or switch between menus. It's not a lot to learn, so I'm confused at how anyone would be having a problem playing without looking at the controller. The face buttons are not always shown all four together. Say the colors of all these words out loud. The colors, not the words themselves.
Even if you know what red is, if something on your screen says "blue", itʻs going to take you a second to remember what red is. Likewise, even if one knows that X does something, it becomes really easy to forget that X does something when thereʻs a bright yellow Y button on oneʻs screen incorrectly telling you that itʻs actually Y that does something.
