Once we're not getting any new races, wouldn't it be nice if Elezen's got an update?

I remember when I started playing with the character creator for my first toon and was going through all the options. I got to Elezen and thought "what in the sideshow hell is this?" The body proportioning is just so...odd? It's like when they were born somebody grabbed their head with a set of tongs and pulled too hard.

I'd be pissed if they messed with Elezen proportions. They're tall, gangly, lanky, and you know what? That's why I play the race. I like that they got different proportions, I like the long neck, I like the head size. If SE went in and "fixed" the proportions then I'd probably quit the game because I do not want SE fucking with the design of my character that I've dumped thousands of hours into playing. It's fantasy race in a fantasy MMO called Final Fantasy XIV, let me play as this giraffe with uncanny proportions. I wish people would piss off and stop asking for Elezen to be Hyur with pointy ears because if I wanted my character to have Hyur proportions I'd play a fucking Hyur.

Also, Tetsujin, thanks for asking the genuine question. A lot of people in this thread don't even play Elezen are going around blasting their design, nice to see someone asking if actual Elezen players would be cool with such a change.

Well, one could presume that many of the people not playing elezen aren't playing it because they don't like the proportions/general design, and elezen players would be playing elezen because they are either okay with or like their current design. I don't know if people seriously think elezen would get a full on redesign, but, in my opinion, at the very least they could use some more faces, along with the texture upgrades.

I just want a shoulder slider. Other elezen players may have little issue with broad shoulders but I hate how I feel restricted to glamor that seems to shrink them. With a shoulder slider it is an option for people to opt out or opt in. Nothing else really bothers me about the race.

And if we're really going to piss on the run cycle, most races' run cycle is bad if you really want to nitpick. LOOKING AT YOU AU RA MALE!

Yes, thank you! Imo too the heads are the problem. I would be ok with smaller shoulders for females, but really the heads are the problem.
Take a look at how small my face is in comparison to my hand.


Please SE, make an option for those of us who want normal sized head on elezen to have it.

All Elezen specific animations are already mocapped, just like pretty much everything else from 1.0. If I had to guess, they got actual tall people or very good actors to do them. Not every race needs cartoonishly expressive emotes or a normal jogging cycle, and they wouldn't fit with the overall demeanor of Elezen.

Concept art where Elezen have more typical proportions is from 2.0's development and onward, and even then it varies from artist to artist. Some of the Viera concept art give them necks even longer than in-game Elezen.

Neck length is fine.

The head I agree is too small, but only slightly. Increasing it too much would look even weirder.

The first thing I would change personally is the way pauldrons on a lot of armor sits on Elezen shoulders, that needs a huge improvement. Some of them are fine as is, but a lot of them are spaced too wide. Other shoulder or neck accessories like the scarf on the Myochin Haori can also be too big, but instances of this happening are much more rare and are less extreme compared to shoulder armor.

Not every game needs elves to just be humans with pointed ears. There are also people who are extremely lanky IRL who may identify more closely to Elezen than Hyur, so changing Elezen to fall in line with what is seen as "normal" will just deprive them of that option in addition to reducing the amount of fantasy elements.

IMO, if they want to perfect Elezen, they can give them the exact same proportions and gear fitting that they have in CGI images and trailers, which would still involve very long necks and limbs.

That's what I want, for them to be closer to their concept art. It's not their necks or shoulders, it's their heads that are too small. And it's only a little too small, but it has quite drastic effects on their overall proportions.

Yes, please rework elezen, the tiny heads are awful. Simply add better proportioned heads as new faces, so that people who are fans of tiny heads can keep them(tho I doubt we would see many). And add more faces in general(Aymeric type of face).
Please, especially rework the proportions of face 3(the only youthful elezen male face), it almost feels like someone made its proportions even worse than the other ones so we are forced into picking the old looking faces.
And while you are at it, add one extra running animation for every race. The male elezen running animation is atrocious, make one that will be a bit more rough and less stiff.
