    Random lag comes and goes

I'm frequently experiencing lag at random intervals as I play. It'll be fine for hours and then suddenly it will take 15 seconds to register a single action. I play alongside my husband who does not experience these lag spikes nearly as often as I do. It's made the game very frustrating to play and actively discourages me from participating in any dungeons. Is there any way to fix this? It's been happening for over a month now.

You say it's been happening for a month. Have you been playing the game longer than that, and before then everything was fine?

If so, did anything change in your household around that time? Sounds like something might now be interfering with your internet connection at intervals that wasn't present before then.

I know you said you play alongside him but do you also sit directly next to him while playing or are you on the other side of the room, or even in another room entirely? Are you both connecting to your router wirelessly? Did you get any new appliances or wireless devices that you're using in your home? It could also be something happening in a neighbor's home, especially if you're in an apartment/condo.

It's hard to say what could be causing the problem without being in your home to try different things. You and your husband might want to see if you have any friends with some knowledge that can come over and take a look.

We've been playing for over a year now, moved into this apartment in December. Didn't have this issue at first, it's much more recent. We do sit right next to each other, and are connected to a wifi extender via ethernet cables, which sits in between our PCs. The main router is on the main part of the house so we can't move it closer to us. No new devices at all, and our only neighbors recently moved out so no interference there. I bought a new ethernet cable, thinking that was the only difference between our setups and I honestly can't say if it helped or not. The old one was a cat6, this new one is a cat8. Neither of us know much about computers at all so troubleshooting is very difficult.

If you live in apartment, you may be sharing bandwidth with the rest of the building.
So if another apartment starts consuming a lot of that shared bandwidth, you may see lag.
I've experienced that in hotels, where the connections were always better in the middle of the night.

It's an apartment connected to a house thankfully, not a complex but the person who lives in the main house occasionally streams on Twitch. My lag spikes don't seem to only happen when he is home though, so I'm not sure how much that is affecting my connection

If you are running off wi-fi from the main house, that would do it. Wi-Fi is not great and XIV is especially susceptible to the packet loss that occurs with wi-fi through multiple walls.

Theres not much you can do if running a cable from the house to where you are isn't possible.
