A entire zone underground, and a underground city player hub.
I hope that will be a thing with the Duskwight Elezens if they ever get a chance to shine one day.

I'm not a big fan of underground zones. They're usually dark, depressing slogs and not very exciting. Now, you can get wild with it and make it look like anything, but in that case, you've just taken some above ground zone and labeled it underground.
Which is basically Labyrinthos.
But there are ways to do it still while not being dark and depressing like you said. PotD 151-200 is a good example of that.
I wish they had more unique things for each of the main cities so they all wouldn't be left empty because everyone just goes to city for Market Board and Limsa has that covered for most people![]()
I wouldn't call wow's Deepholm exactly a dark depressing slog. And it was underground.
And most D&D games do the Underdark in a way that isn't dark and depressing to some degree, just usually dark..ish.
Not saying it can't be done, but most of the time underground zones are a chore to get through rather than something you look forward to imo.
I still wish the Azjol-Nerub underground zone in Wrath of the Lich King had actually happened. The Nerubian architecture we actually see in the two dungeons made from the remains of it was pretty cool.
I'd love if there was an entire hub in the underground under ul dah with the new content... probably won't happen, but it would be neat.
Back around when Ul'dah was about to implode I had suggested a Dante's inferno inspired dungeon set that goes through Sil'Dih and ends up with a magical underground high fantasy water city- like if Altissa (FFXV) and Castle in the Sky (Studio Ghibli) and Zeal (Chrono Tigger) and perhaps the Disney Atlantis got together to make an underground city. Underground Rivendale lol.
Might have had some reconstruction like mechanics to it.
Definitely I think they could be dreary but I think nice blues, lights, and elegant ancient vibes could be quite fun!

I feel like this post really highlights how forgettable Labirynthos is lol
