Alts. How many do you have and what do you do with them?

when I first started, I came over from WoW a few years ago and alts ingrained into my head as the only way to do everything.

so I have 4 lower level ones that have been stalled for a while now because I an do it all on one. I take them out on occasion but really, I dont need to feed that altitis any more

I have 10. I have one each on Materia, Light and Chocobo for access to the other regions to tour housing. I have one on another NA world to play with relatives. Then I have the rest on Coeurl. Most of them were created just to replay MSQ but I got a bit attached to them along the way and never deleted them like I normally do when I'm done.

If you're an alt lover, I don't recommend having more than 3 that you play seriously unless you're able to truly no life the game. It gets to be difficult to keep up all of your alts on everything that interests you. Three is also a good number if you're into gathering to get maximum use out of the 2 hours timed nodes without severely straining GP available for the next node.

This is the first MMO I've ever played besides the original Secret World where I didn't have any alts. I can do everything there is to be done on one character and most things are so time consuming I fail to see the point. I can get the entry level subscription and 3 retainers for the same cost as a full subscription with a bunch of alt slots I'll never use.

I run alts mostly because I like to play characters rather than representational avatars of myself. So far, I only have 3, counting my main.

It's also nice that I dont need to be a fantasia addict to satisfy my want to play other races.

10 at present. 1 on Midgardsormr. 1 on Coerl, 8 on Fairie.
2 at endgame on Fairie, 2 casually leveling on Fairie, 1 on Coerl to play with a friend, 1 on Midgardsormr to enjoy the Road to 80. The others four were leveled to 50 to place lottery bids, but I'll probably keep leveling them in dribs and drabs.

I've noticed over the years people mention their alts and whatnot and sometimes people say they have like 3+ alts and I'm just curious what people do with them.

I've had my Renalt since before Heavensward and I've still not done everything on that one character. Granted lately I just mess around in Balmung Shout Chat these days but there is just a LOT to do.

I have 5 alt's, for the most part it was basically for Rp and reliving the MSQ, as everyone knows there isn't half the dialogue in the travelog.

With the NG+ it doesn't have the same interest for the MSQ. There is one character that does matter to me for Rp reasons that I'll pass her level 90 one day, she has remained at Rak'tika's level for a while now. One day...

In Stormblood it served me to get more crafting delivery per week easily and she's 80 in crafting I think for a job.

As a returning player who has been away over two years, left just after Shadowbringers dropped... I'm tempted to create an alt to re-experience the world "fresh". Currently I'm doing NG+ but it still does not feel the same... no side quests... just feels flat. For people who complain about wanting to never replay ARR MSQ, you do realize they completely streamlined it, right? I'm finding on NG+ I'm just breezing through the levels.

What has me hesitant is the fact that most worlds are FULL and even the +EXP worlds are no longer accepting new players. So I'm stuck not being able to create an alt even if I wanted to because my preferred worlds are full and the +EXP worlds are also not accepting players. I've also found that the official Lodestone world status is not even up-to-date on what worlds are or are not accepting new players... which is frustrating.

Coming from spending years playing ESO, there you cannot switch classes "jobs", you have to create a new character and level them all over again... other than your Champion Points which are account wide. I have 14 alts over there. Coming back to FFXIV, while being nice to have all jobs on one character, sometimes it's a bit too much. I have most jobs leveled to 80, and still haven't finished Stormblood... but have no interest right now in doing so. I think that's part of my problem, I enjoy leveling and MSQ... and with such high level characters and being a predominantly solo player, I worry about what happens when I get them to 90? That's what happened when I quit last time, once my favorite jobs were level 80, I lost interest in playing. So I'm thinking that creating an alt MAY be what keeps me playing FFXIV this time... as it will give me months of stuff to do.

Oh, and should I mention that in total, I have between 30 and 40 retainers?
20+ of them geared to iLvl 570 or better, a mix of DoW/M and DoH.
Makes it easy to gather most mats.

If I was motivated, I'm sure I could make some serious gil with my retainers.

Too many, and 3 that I actively use.

Generally speaking, I only wanted them for different aesthetic/eye candy without necessarily doing a fantasia every couple of days. That being said, I am a completionist, for the most part. So I do everything on my alt(s) that I would be doing on my main.
