Alts. How many do you have and what do you do with them?

i do just about everything and actually collect things on my main

7 alts are through caught up with msq and caught up with Hildibrand
mostly play them so I can have some alternate models to play around with in /gpose
mostly ignore side content with alts but I do try to have everything at least unlocked for the most part
for example 0 progress in PotD HoH Eureka or Bozja but I've done all sidequests (except EW haven't started yet) and some Beast Tribe stuff

I have multiple alts. Like each to have their own personality and style. With their own skills and roles and personal story. Plus just don’t like one character that does it all. Just doesn’t feel right to me.

Four alts.

My first alt I made with the thought to replay the MSQ, try a different race (highlander hyur) and also make an FC so I could try workshop stuff with a house. That alt is now at the end of stormblood and got me my large mansion in ishgard as an FC house.

I first used a fantasia in Shadowbringers to try Viera, I went back to miqo'te after a year but then found myself really missing my bun self. But I was dearly missing my miqo self as a bun.
My second alt was due to missing being a miqote. I decided to fanta back to Viera for Endwalker and decided rather than using fantasia back and forth regularly I would make an alt so I can have tailored glam for each version of me. Much happier with this now. That alt is at the start of Endwalker and I plan to use it for raiding in pf/helping ppl clear without cucking their loot.

My third and fourth alts are on the new EU servers for housing purposes and to enjoy playing as an Au'ra and a slightly different bun girl. Both of them I boosted to shadowbringers and plan to use mainly for crafting and casual content. I can finally make glam plates for crafters with them! No space for crafter glam on my main at all. Really glad I made them as my neighbours on Raiden are lovely and I got plots I could only dream of getting on my main.

I really enjoy redoing msq at a snails pace, my first alt is near two years old now I think. Making glams for my different characters is enjoyable and I love housing so it was worth the extra effort there too.

Got a second one one at Ragnarok, which is in HW content before CT became a manditory quest.

Wonder if I can do the Void Arc Alliance raids and then join the Roulettes, or if CT is required for it.

I have One Hrothgar ALT.
And honestly, I just love FFXIV enough that I like to redo alot of stuff, just under a new skin.
It is a weird sort of RP thing as well where I do play abit of a character on my Hrothgar Alt.

Call it pointless, but I just think its good fun. And it only cost me an Extra $1 to have more then one Avatar/Toon on a Server.
Its not much, I think they deserve the money, I enjoy it <3

I have this Hrothgar I originally made as an alt but has become my main to replay the MSQ and stop people from confusing me as a woman, and a female Au Ra (originally Highlander Hyur).

I'd play them both equally, but it's not necessary to do so because of how the class system works, and reconfiguring the hotbars is a pain (I play on PS4 so).

I never found much use to have an alt. I see it as time I can be spending getting more stuff done on my main.

I have 7 currently, so 8 total characters. I have my main character (who was not my first character to create but became my main solo character) that I do everything on. But I would never fantasia her. She has a set look and personality. So I have alts to try different races, to redo MSQ at that newbie level instead of through NG+ (though all mine predate NG+), to play with my hubby who doesn't play nearly as much so I keep someone where he is at MSQ, to go all through crafting again because it's fun, because I always had alts in other MMOs so it feels weird not to have them, and before the amaro I only had certain classes on my main so they were a way to experience those other classes that fit them RP wise. I've since come up with an RP reason for my main to be a jack of all trades (and discovered how much I really love some classes I had ignored) but I still tend to let my alts specialize in their given professions.

When I start an alt, I give the alt some seed money to start with but then also challenge myself to test what tricks I've learned over the years for gaining gil and building that alt up. I'm thinking when the new NA servers go online, I may go make an alt over there and start completely fresh and meander my way through the MSQ like an almost total newbie (can't erase my knowledge of dungeons) just for something a little different to do from time to time.

Played since 1.0 beta. My main is an alt I created to "freshly experience ARR" and by the time I finished 2.0's story, I didn't feel like doing it again.

So now my 1.0 main sits there, still level 50, wearing what was at one time the best equipment in the game (DRG AF and Ifrit Harpoon) and has the tattoo, the goobbue, dated equipment, old totems, etc. but I've spent too long and too much mogstation money on my new ARR character to go back.

I have 7 alts across different servers and data centers to play with friends from different regions with 5 at max level. On my main server [Lich] I just have 3 for raiding. Unfortunately the game has a progression issue where it sets it self up to be alt job friendly but it's really not if you want to do endgame stuff as Tome lockouts severly restrict gearing. 7 weeks to tome gear a Tank BIS is a disgrace when you have so many jobs in this game now. 450 tomes a week was fine in ARR when there were so few jobs, but now it's a joke.

Then there is the entire issue with Ninja. Why in 2022 does it still use DEX gear as a melee DPS, only melee dps that you can't share accessories with. Why is this still a thing?
