Hello. Just a thought about an improvement

I am very new to ff14 and have really been enjoying myself. I have noticed a small, but pretty frustrating thing nonetheless. It always seems that your, long or short, dungeon Q's like to pop right in the middle of a cutscene. This could all be a coincidence and bad luck, however I have had some interesting conversations on novice chat that sort of inform me that this might not be so rare of a thing? I understand that you can accept the Q and it will take you out of your cutscene and pop you into the dungeon. I feel like immersion is really what keeps people involved and playing and this sort of breaks that. Would it be possible for your position to be held or maybe paused while you are involved in a cutscene? or possible have a pause button for those longer Q's incase one needs to use the bathroom or grab a bite to eat (this also seems like a likely time for that Q to pop lol). Anyway, just my thoughts. I really have been enjoying the game so much and thanks for anyone who took the time to read this. Have a good day!

as you play this game more, you'll learn to not queue for things when story / cutscenes are happening.

Yeah thats what novice chat has told me. Problem is I'm trying to go through msq and that's a lot of cuts scenes. Adding to that playing dps and some longish wait q's and it feels slightly awkward. I'm sure it's just a learning curve though. Thanks for the reply.

It's annoying, true. The 'good' thing about it is, that at least you start the cutscene at the beginning again. Also, later in the MSQ you'll start receiving a warning before a very long CS, so you can unqueue or whatnot. It's not perfect but you get used to it, I guess.

Yeah I was redoing cutscenes, but im a big nerd and like the immersion. When I redo a cutscene that was 95% over and I had no idea its just awkward. That's the easiest solution by far though. I'm 100% going to be looking for that long cutscene warning though. Thanks again.

Conversely, why should 3, 7, or 23 other players wait longer for you to get through what could be a long cut scene? Unless I'm missing what you're meaning.

The only really put those warnings by the really long ones that could take a decent time. But there are still some that are longer that don't have that warning.

What I usually do is only do anything that might possibly have a cut scene I wouldn't want to skip I don't do if I'm within 5 minutes of the average wait time. I also try to make sure I've taken care of food and bathroom breaks as well before I queue. Sudden things come up, but that's life.

To me a hold or pause on the queue should be treated like you stepping out of a line at the grocery store to go get one more item you forgot. You don't get to hop back in line if you got out of line to go grab the item. You have to wait in line again from where ever the end is now.

Except if you're queueing for a duty for MSQ then you're not going to run into those long cutscenes because you can't advance the MSQ farther.

There's little point in queuing for other duties while working on MSQ (except those gatekeeping MSQ progress like Crystal Tower) because you're going to massively outlevel the MSQ without gaining access to the higher level content or the higher level tomestone gear.

I do understand your frustrations as new player since you really have no way when a cutscene is going to happen or how long it will take short of the warning. Veteran players have a pretty good idea of when to expect them and for how long.

    I don't think that's what he intends.

WoW's duty system would allow players to queue up for 3 separate wings of LFR at the same time when I was playing (assume it still does). First one becomes available and you go in. Sometime during that wing you might hit #1 in the queue for the second and it would hold you in position but fill the pending party with player directly below you in queue so that party wouldn't have to wait. Once you got out of the first wing, you're still at #1 for the next party for the second wing that's formed. Repeat with the third wing while you're in the second.

That way the player was effectively only experiencing 1 wait time to get 3 wings done instead of having to wait and do the first one, then queue for the second, do the second then queue for the third.

Could it work here but instead of the Duty Finder seeing you're in another duty (though obviously it would be great in the case of solo duties for job quests) it would see you're in a cutscene? I don't know. I can see somewhat of a potential for abuse if there were no limitations on how long it would hold your position. Otherwise players could queue, start up a cutscene on the Unending Journey with auto-advance disabled, go do other things for several hours, come back to the game, exit the cutscene and be at the front of the queue.

It's not like we lack for things to do when we're in queue that don't involve cutscenes. If a player is queueing for a duty, they're probably trying to level a job. Doing tribal dailies or FATEs for the additional XP are good ways to fill the wait time since you're going to earn more XP for the same time investment than you would from side quests that have cutscenes. If you're just trying to kill time while waiting, Gold Saucer (other than the instanced events) and crafting/gathering are excellent for that.

It just became too awkward to try to stay invested in the story, msq, not over level (although some say don't worry about over leveling, others say beware), and try to break the monotonous msq filler stuff without doing some dungeons. Paid 60 for the game and 15 for the first month after free trial to find it wasn't for me lol. Oh well I love Square Enix and I'm sure I'll find another ff to enjoy. Still need to beat 9 before my old ps3 dies lol

If this upset you that much, it's probably for the best that you decided to skip the game. There are more than a few other immersion-breaking things that could be annoying so even if you got over this, you'd likely run into something else that was just as frustrating. Better to cut your losses and not get trapped by sunk-cost fallacy.
