That's where it came from.
I play single player RPG's so I know if your healer has nothing to do they can to damage.
I've also played a lot of MMO's and the healers job is to heal, not let the tank fall to 10% then spam heal or whatever you have.
Idk where these people think a healers job is primary dps, secondary heal. This concept doesn't work when you actually have to heal a group that's getting destroyed.
I don't have parties like this often. Send them my way so I can stop being bored.

My "primary job" may be to heal, but if I have abilities that can heal a tank from 10% to full (Benediction) or close to full (Essential Dignity) and they're on an oGCD that I can weave between two GCD damaging buttons pray tell me why should I not keep on dpsing?

Your job as a healer is not, has not and never was to heal to full outside of certain mechanics that REQUIRE YOU to heal to full or your tank/dps is taking so many vuln stacks that if you don't heal to full they are going to die.

This is what the devs refuse to understand about the healing role and this is what a lot of inexperienced healers or people outside the healing role fail to understand:

As you increase your skill as a healer you will learn how strong your healing abilities are and learn to use the bare minimum to heal. It is literally no different than a melee dps or BLM learning how to greed for uptime.
In other MMOs you did this so you had extra tools to use during an emergency so you always had a fail safe plan. That idea is thrown out the window here in FFXIV because damage is too low and too infrequent to reward said style of gameplay (and our healing tools are too plentiful and overpowered for the content SE is churning) and thus you do more dps because you can heal less and the party can survive just fine.

No one is saying to not heal. It is our job despite how much SE wants tanks to take it from us. We're saying not to OVERHEAL when you have no reason to if you are geared/skilled enough to.
