honestly healers are so incredibly (boring)easy there are times i just hold the controller in one hand or i manually click and spam DPS spells,
don't even need to cast heals in most normal content.

What else are you doing if you're only tossing a dps spell ''here and there''?I've had people complain or just leave the pt because all I did was heal.
Idc I'm still going to main heal, I'll throw in a dps here and there but I'm not 1 of those healers who will allow the tanks health to drop to 10% before healing.
These new kids playing this game have adhd.
Because it's the heals you should only be casting ''here and there''. There's very little incoming damage in this game, and almost all of it is telegraphed. It sounds like you're overhealing a lot or you're just standing around doing nothing. The latter will make people leave because they think you're afk.
The "new kids" have the decency to constantly contribute something meaningful instead of overhealing and semi-afking.I've had people complain or just leave the pt because all I did was heal.

You could learn a thing or two from them.
And 10% is still alive. As long as nobody died it was fine. End of story. You don't get bonus points for keeping someone extra healthy.
Better yet, healing someone from critically low HP gives you bonus LB gauge. The game contains an incentive system for playing chicken with HP.The "new kids" have the decency to constantly contribute something meaningful instead of overhealing and semi-afking.

You don't need to let a tank drop to 10% to do very decent damage.
Here's an older log from back when I actually cared
1 single drop to 30% in the entire dungeon, another to 50%. The rest of the run they were 75% or higher the entire time.
I did 24.59% of the groups dps and the run landed at 97th percentile, so pretty solid.
Not DPSing isn't a Tank's HP problem, it's a you problem.

Seriously, most of the time past the level 50 content you are able oGCD heal, and only have to cast in the roughest and draggiest pulls after you run out of everything else. Are you just not plain using any GCD at all between "throwing a DPS here and there" then? But if people are so annoyed they leave your party, you probably just rub it in their faces in an obvious way, like uselessly recasting Physick on fully healed targets over and over or something.

This, precisely. Even with the purest of Curebots, most of the time I still don't see people leave or expressed their annoyance outright in the party chat so long no wipes happening. It does annoys me if I see one but the worst I'd personally do is to just hold back on my mitigations slightly but never too drastically, if I'm the tank; if they really want to only heal that badly, then I will make them. Still no words exchanged, we just carry on and try to finish the duty in reasonable time, then we part ways.
It makes me wonder they've done something else that pisses people off to the point of dropping the party.
I'm not talking about savage raids I'm mainly talking basic dungeons and trials.
Whenever I heal, I main heal until it seems the tank is good then I'll dps some.
For OP, you're doing fine heal how you want to heal as long as the party is still alive at the end that's all that matters.
I mean same thing, you don’t have to have the tank at full HP before you do damageI'm not talking about savage raids I'm mainly talking basic dungeons and trials.

If the tank is at 40% HP and with the CD’s up his hp is dropping at around 10% every 5 seconds then healing him is a problem for 20 seconds from now
Which will still leave you free to DPS 90% of the time, just from the fact there's no point in trying to heal past 100% let alone with hard casts. The only time healing might really bite into your GCDs is with minimal item levels and big pulls.I'm not talking about savage raids I'm mainly talking basic dungeons and trials.

What is "main healing" even supposed to mean?
