Thoughts on Island Santuary

The introduction looks pretty neat. Looks like a final fantasy 14 version of Animal Crossing to me. Thoughts?

Can build structures and I'm curious as to what you can do to decorate them. Looks like you can earn gear, garden and more. I suspect this is going to be quite a time sink.

Edit: Also wonder how the invite friend feature will work and what they'll be able to do when there.

I agree. I'm very excited for it, but really not a fan of this decision. There wasn't any reason for them to develop it as endgame content. They've been trying to make the game more beginner-friendly in other areas, yet they develop something like this as current-endgame-only... why?

I felt the same way about the new lore codex being locked to 6.1's MSQ. Both of these are things that newer and slower players would appreciate just as much as anyone else, so I don't really understand the decision.

If this was the motivation, they could have made it Endwalker content without making it endgame. Like how you can create Viera and Hrothgar just from owning Shadowbringers.

If SE's goal with Islands is to give FFXIV players something to do between content drops (and not just attract new players who want to play Animal Crossing with chocobos) it makes perfect sense to lock Islands to endgame.

They should have at the least let you have a couple of different choices. X.x

I think part of the reason we have limited housing is because we have near unlimited customization in the housing we do have. Items can be on any plane (x,y,z) axis with pixel precision coupled with rotating it fractions of degrees. Items can be dyed. Multiple that by the number of items in a house and server having to transmit all of that information to any player that enters a house... as well as transmitting all of that information about the exterior of each house in ward for every player that enters...

That, in my opinion, is why we don't just have more wards added to accommodate everyone.

Not really. 3 x 32 bits can a position vector and another can contain the rotation in radians. Dye can be done in 8 bits. So those "endless permutations" can be provided with 17 bytes per object, plus the extra to identify the object.

At 17 bytes of data, that's clearly not the reason.

The reason is simple, really. "SE decided they didn't want this to be housing, so it has no housing features."

It's fluff you do in order to get a mount, a minion, and some dyes.
