6.25 to introduce Rank Demotion. Do you think this will help or hurt the overall PvP

Rank demotion makes sense... in a system where you play with a fixed party through a season that shares their ranking.

With the system CC actually is where you can only ever solo queue and are beholden to the whims of whatever the matchmaking algorithm decides to throw you into however, I can see this leading to more than a few very frustrated players who get the short end of the RNG stick.

All in all, this change just reinforces my decision to not even bother with ranked CC.

Demoting out of crystal makes sense, but I think also letting you demote out of diamond sucks.

It is effortless to climb to Crystal Rank, so you should not fear rank demotion. The system itself will help you to get to Crystal rank no matter how inexperienced/bad you are at PvP.
If you reach Crystal rank and got demoted to Plat 5, you will still receive Crystal Rank rewards, the new system will count your highest rank & rating if you are grinding top 100 AFAIK.
The point is that you don't need to worry about rank demotion.

As shown in the most recent live letter, the reward that you receive at the end of the season is based on the highest tier/crystal credit score achieved during the season. It's not based on what tier/crystal credit score you're currently at when the season ends.

They said that the final ranking is decided by your highest score during the season, but they didn't mention the rewards, afaik?

While the unofficial translation has Yoshi-P stating "If you reach crystal once during the season, this will be saved as your progress for rewards even if you get demoted", there's also one of the slides shown after the one you linked:

I don't really think it'll have as much of an overall impact as people think it will, but it might end up with higher-tier queues popping more frequently if people have to play to keep their ranking.

I'd still figure most of the complaints beforehand will stick around, as the majority of the complaints in relation to ranking/matchmaking are just the same from any matchmaking/team-based/pvp objective game on the market.

Either way I kinda got it out of my system after the first season and then just started playing other PvP games to get that fix when I want it. So it's not really something that'll affect me one way or the other tbqh

It took me almost 11 hours to go from gold to platinum, and I can very confidently say it was not a "me" problem.

With nothing to curate players based on skill levels or performance, every match is just a coin flip you can push in your favor slightly by being good, but you only account for one fifth of your team at the end of the day.
