Even people who are broadcasting the mode, not playing, able to see everything and not think about their rotations, get caught off-guard by OT. I think the UI and how it's presented could be a little better. When you study it and focus on it, it makes clear sense, but in practise even people with hundreds of games in the new mode take time fully parse the situation. Should be more quickly readable and maybe needs some extra help from the UI and sound department.
