SE's ethics department plus Sony's new stance on anime after they moved to califorina equals disaster for FFXIV. That said, this game is going to die one day; if it gets bought by Sony then I have a hunch that it will die in a pretty funny way, lol.

While technically not wrong, consider the following...
WoW has been going for 19 years.
FFXI has been going for 17 years.
Dark Age of Camelot has been going for 21 years.
EverQuest has been going for 23 years.
Ultima Online has been going for 24 years.
ARR is not even 10 years old. It'll just about turn 10 next year in August.
So.. sure, the game may go away someday, but we may be talking about the 2040s or later, depending how the next 10 go for XIV.
Maybe SE is just shifting theirs priorities to a few strong IPs instead of many mediocre.
That would free up resources to make the strong IPs even stronger. But I'm no expert and it is just my guess/hope.
I just know that FFxiv is generating enough money to sustain itself easily and even have spare resources to make other games (FF16).
Therefore I don't worry to much about the xiv future.
There wasn't really anything mediocre about many of the IP's they chose to get rid of. Pretty sure they'd have done well had they bothered to revive the Legacy of Kain games instead of pursuing stuff like Babylon's Fall.
Too late now, I suppose.
You know you're an IT person when you read the thread title and think of internet protocols and not intellectual property until you open the thread and go "oh" lol.

In a way if Sony does buy SE maybe they can give stronger servers for 500 wards XD. Also maybe better UI and other much needed QoL changes

Exactly my concern. If Sony bought SE, I'd not be surprised if 7.0 is exclusive to PS5 and costs $80 with 7.0 PC release somewhere around 8.0/9.0 update.
That never will happen because the large PC playerbase will just stop playing.
At least I would because a discission like that would mark the beginning of the end.
Cross play is a big selling point of XIV and if MS would not have bought Activision Blizzard then a Xbox version would have been possible too.
I could see Sony pushing for removal of PS4 support to help push PS5 sales but I couldn't see them removing or delaying PC launches for a game that has been out worldwide on PC since its inception.
