    Square-Enix says to contact steam because it's a steam problem (which to be fair it is).
    Steam says to contact Square-Enix because it's a Square-Enix problem.

    So how do we get either organization to actually care that a non-insignificant portion of their player base just... Straight up can't access the game at not-uncommon rate? Yanno aside from cancelling subscriptions en masse because we all know none of us will (nor should) do that.

    So how do we actually report it as a problem? Couldn't find a way to do it on Steam... It's been over an hour and if we can't report the problem, how will they fix it? lol

    Same issue on my husband's computer for the last hour or two. Yay. I tried uninstalling the game and deleted every FFXIV file on his PC but even trying a clean install gives me a Steam connection popup error, then a technical issue warning when we attempt to launch it for the first time.

    So now we'll have to go through the hours-long full reinstall process whenever this gets fixed. And husband won't be pleased when he realizes all his settings are gone since he spent yesterday evening redoing his hotbars and I'm sure forgot to make a backup since he exited the game once he was done... I'd much prefer it if we'd bought the Windows version.

    Yeah if it's one thing I learned the last time this happened, a full re-install will not fix the issue and will only compound the problems. It doesn't help you now, but... At least you know for the future and at the very least can warn others.

    .... Yanno while also warning potential new players never to purchase this game on Steam.

    Yeah doesn't help that when you google "technical issue ffxiv launcher" all the guides from third parties say the last resort is to reinstall. We had this issue once before after a patch and a reinstall did fix it, so I assumed it was the same deal. I only thought to go to social media to check if anyone else had this issue after not being able to fix it with a clean install. Def know for the future now and will check here first, hah. Hopefully some of those other sites update their articles to mention it can be a their-side issue and not just your computer.

    Having an official statement from Square when they're aware this is happening would be really nice, at minimum, so we don't spend ages troubleshooting.
