Aesthetic didn't interest me.
I got the plat in Elden ring in 96ish hours.
I took my time to do basically EVERYTHING, even down to exploration.
And I also farmed a few bosses to help others and powerlevel a little bit.
Lol funny, the Victorian Gothic Eldritch style is part of what attracted me.
I have done nothing but duels at the Main Gate of Raya Academy for the past 60 hours, send help.
Seriously though, love me some stupid Elden Ring PVP, the damage is bonkers for no reason. I got this strength build set up with a Heavy Crescent Axe with Warcry, and an off-hand Highland Axe with Beast Roar for ranged pokes. With the Roar Medallion and Highland Axe's passive increasing the power of roar based skills, along with the Axe Talisman increasing the power of fully charged R2 attacks (which is what Ashes of War like Warcry/Barbaric Roar/Braggart's Roar are good for), I deal well over 1300-1500 damage with a single attack depending on my opponent's defensive values. And that's not even getting into my Physick Flask setup that increases my strength and also increases the power of charged attacks, taking me straight into one-shot territory. Alternatively, I'll swap out the Strength-knot tear for Opaline, since my build is super reliant on trades and the extra defense helps. Also if I'm feeling cheeky, I can swap out the Warcry Ash of War and Axe Talisman for Troll's Roar and Alexander's Jar Shard. Just so satisfying to poise right through a jumping attack from a Collossal weapon and slap someone for nearly all their health in one hit.
Sorry if I overshared, I just really wanted to express how much I love yelling at people in Elden Ring.
The comparisons invoked of Dark Souls or Game of Thrones (the latter of which I wouldn't even consider extreme in terms of how it handles consequences and loss) in arguments against positive changes to both story and gameplay aren't helpful. Both stand to improve.
Fundamentally I want a video game with a captivating fantasy story. I do not want a main campaign that provides little to no substantial challenges or a story that errs on the side of safety or "feels" with an unchanging cast.

I feel like anyone comparing anything even remotely difficult to Dark Souls has never touched touched a single Ninja Gaiden in their life, 2d or 3d.
Honestly I think most people claiming souls games are difficult have never actually played one before. They just parrot what other people have said about how hard they are.
I dunno why the JP guide got right to explaining mechanics and the EN guide was uh...

One could say a similar thing in regards to those who are quick to call upon Game of Thrones whenever someone asks for something more to be done with the main cast, with a strong aversion to seeing anything harmful happen to these characters from permanent injury to death despite them ultimately being fictional creations.

It gets to the point where sometimes I wish the Soulsborne series never gained that reputation to begin with, but then people would just jump to the next comparison and use that instead.
Such as Ninja Gaiden U_U.
They have had permanent injury and many characters have died. One could say a similar thing in regards to those who are quick to call upon Game of Thrones whenever someone asks for something more to be done with the main cast, with a strong aversion to seeing anything harmful happen to these characters from permanent injury to death despite them ultimately being fictional creations.
You guys act like there were 0 deaths and no consequences in endwalker at all.
Also, for all your talk about loving fantasy, you sure seem to struggle with the fact that in a fantasy story with magic and world altering abilities, the main cast can avoid death in some ways.
