These videos aren't meant for someone who's played an MMO, knows what Final Fantasy is, or someone who's touched a video game in years if ever. Or somewhat even for someone who's only played Candy Crush or Farmville. A lot of things in those videos cover a lot of questions that have popped up in the new player help section of these forums. Along with questions I've seen asked in NN (back when I'd pop in there), in shout chat and by FC mates who are new to the game. Could the art style be different and the information given differently? Sure, but again people have been asking for official guides ect for years. This really should be a non issue. I guess the most likely burnt out(but not ready to admit it), too cynical and has to always complain about something or they might feel that their voice won't get heard somehow crowd gotta rub that itch.

It IS pretty grating when the teacher of the series walks in all like "Why hello fellow zoomers!". lol

He is not the only one that has had their confidence shaken in FFXIV and is considering single player alternatives. The standards I have for this game in terms of story, tone, and aesthetics were not adequately reached in Endwalker, which was very different compared to the reception of Shadowbringers. To that end I am looking forward to Diofield Chronicle, whose demo just released today. FFXIV is now in a position where it now has to compete with other games that are higher in my list of priorities, when there was a time when it took the top spot in terms of video games I play.

Well, fortunately no single player has control over what the devs do. I don't want the game turning into game of thrones.

Gritty and dark all the time aren't all that interesting.

And it's ok to play other games. Probably healthier. I've been playing XIV since 2010, and I still play new releases that come out. There's literally nothing wrong with that

I prefer a more fantasy look and especially sound, the avatars are ok in that video but remind me of an infomercial or some mobile 1.99 app ...ick.

I want and expect ffxiv tutorials/videos/content to give me shivers like this did in ffxi

-in here...its lacking, FFXIV did a much better job of creating the atmosphere and feelings in the beginning of the games release, and its still a great game! but something big has been lost.

If an expansion about the apocalypse wasn't the time to focus on more mature storytelling, especially darker and grittier aspects combined with lasting consequences for the protagonist faction then I don't know what is.

Ah. The nub of your disdain is "lasting consequences". In a video game series known for throwing away NPC party members, but whose main characters return again. And again. And agai --- hello there Cid!

You know, you can have "mature storytelling" (whatever that means) and dark and gritty without killing off half your cast. GoT isn't the end all be all of dark and gritty. You can have dark, gritty, and depressing and still have a happy ending.

As has been pointed out over the numerous past occasions where the 'tHiS iS nOt GaMe Of ThRoNeS' line has been spouted, many of us aren't asking for mass death for the sake of mass death and are instead asking for death to occur where and when it makes sense. Cladding the bulk of the cast in extensive plot armour simply sends things in the opposite direction.

I would humbly suggest bookmarking this post if you're able to. It might help refresh your memory next time this same point is raised.
