If I have people outside my bubble, I'll normally only say something in chat if they're reeeally needing it (like if the party is hurting big time, eating all the mechs, etc). And if they still don't move in? Well they're either not reading chat or just being dense, so eh.

People who like to hang out in the boonies.....those seem to be a constant always. lol. I tend to take the same approach though. If they're sucking and needing a lot of healing but too far out for my AoE heals/shields, I might say something in chat if it's getting obnoxious. If they still don't move in, I'll still keep an eye on them and heal when I can, but they won't be my #1 priority. Not going to yoink em closer though. :3

As far as my own usage, I pretty much keep it to alliance raids only. If someone is on the wrong side of Hasbhrown's fire arm, those mechs with the spinning hands where you have to get to a circle, not hiding behind ice, etc. But yeah, if I think I can save em, I'll try...sometimes. There have definitely been times I've yoinked a dead body back to me. lol.
I don't even worry about saying something in chat. My bubble is there. I'll trust that the others have their big kid pants on and know to get into it. I won't chase them around the arena but I don't have any issues popping them a pity Regen as they run by or a lily if it's not reserved for something else. I can meme with fellow healers about those Narnians who stand outside it, but it doesn't offend me or affect whether I'll keep them alive in other ways if they aren't in it.

Even in rare cases where Rescue has a real use, like rescuing dive3 into the stack in UCOB, it still ends up griefing because half the time the healer Rescues early, pulling the divebomb into the group. And for what? For nothing. Not only can you now skip divebombs entirely, you don't need 8 people for that stack.

The ability shouldn't exist if its only use is extremely niche in high-end content that the majority of players won't ever touch.

If you think you need Rescue because another player keeps standing in AoEs constantly, realize that same player could be casting Rescue on you. There is no skill check when you cast Rescue. Healers are not automatically better than other players just because their role icon is green.

I'm sick of healers tossing me off ledges, pulling me into AoEs, and ruining my uptime in casual content for no reason. Rescue is negatively impacting my gameplay. I have never had a positive experience with Rescue.
Mousse Princess in Mare Lamentorum. Healers are frequently using Rescue to get players out of Amorphic Flail during trains.

It's incorrect to say that Rescue only ends in griefing, even if being used in good faith. It would be valid to say that use of Rescue does not end in the intended result more often than not.

Personally, I wouldn't care if Rescue was removed. I don't expect it to be, though. It become a sort of expected staple in MMO game play.

I'm always amused when a player is Rescued to where they need to be or a safe spot - then run right back to where they were.

Garuda Hard Mode says hello. The number of times I've rescued the tank out of a tornado and into a safe spot only for them to valiantly charge back in and get knocked around like a pingpong ball is in the double digits.

As for my own two cents, I don't care if they keep it or not. But if we're gonna be belly aching about our gameplay being impacted by other people, may as well remove stacks, spreads, cleaves, or anything else that could get you killed for no reason other than a player making a bad move.

Bonus points if they get angry and say that they would've been fine if not for the rescue.
No, you would've been fine if you had just stayed put.

Rescue itself is not grief, it's just improper or overly-cautious use of the ability. I don't think players are intentionally griefing in many scenarios.. They just don't fully appreciate nuances like DPS/melee uptime.

There are plenty of proper usages of the ability that fall outside of the realm of niche high-end content. Similarly, if a part of your argument is built on the crux of "Well I can rescue them outside of AoEs, so they can do the exact same and rescue me inside of AoEs" - Most people won't even do this. Most people won't even use rescue when they are unsure of mechanics.

Get over yourself and stop whining because someone ruined your melee uptime in casual content. Sounds like you're just succumbing to negativity bias and blowing your experiences, and the frequency therein way out of proportion.

Speaking as somone who does not heal, I have only seen it used for good. By good do I mean Healer saving me when I mess up and almost get caught in a AOE? Yes.

Aglaia. I use it during Byergot's fight when people can't seem to figure out which platform to stand on when the hammers are going.

It's also a heavy case of "healer knows best" where a lot of times egomaniacal healers use it thinking they're helping and they end up damaging the party instead
Have never had anyone tell me anything close to this. Most times I get a thank you because they forgot/messed up a mechanic. Not everyone thinks they are perfect, and don't need help at times.

Imagine FFXIV healers still having something interesting to do that requires some thought and attention in 2022.

    Kill it.

    Kill it with fire

Is it inherently griefing ? No.
CAN it be used for it? Of course.

    Been healing lately.

Rescued someone behind the animal in Rathalos.
Rescued someone into the purple area in Dzemael Darkhold to reduce their incoming damage and make them do damage.
Usually rescue someone behind the barrier in Void Ark.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."
