Should I do Relic Weapon For ARR?

    Howdy y’all,
Ok so I’m interested in only doing one arr relic and this is doing the dragoon one. I’m on the book quest and want to know should I quit or finish the relic weapon? My Goth Rog would look awesome with it and I love glamour but I don’t want to feel burned out. I’m still on arr and I finished the crystal tower. My dragoon is 71 and I’m on arr part 2. So what do y’all think ?

You can do it if you like the look, but you can do it later as well. You could do it in a year when you are through the MSQ. There is no rush, so it's up to you.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

It's entirelly up to you! Really relic is only glamour and a set of achievements so it's really a case of how much you want either (I gave up on relic at the book stage too, as I couldn't be bothered continuing on - the achievements are meaningless and the later appearences of PLD relic look awful so it was a no brainer for me). And this is for every tier of relic for each expansion - when it's released it's pretty powerful, but quickly becomes overshadowed by new (raid) gear and just becomes glamour.

So it's up to you if you want to do it or not, there is no content that specifically requires it.

I would say, put it on pause for the time being, focus on running through the game and getting the corresponding class to the level cap, which will give you much greater leniency when doing the farming and in general make it a lot more tolerable.

That being said, it's worth keeping in mind that you don't need to tunnel doing the relic, just making small steps over a longer period of time, perhaps?

Funny thing about the "just glamour" angle to item acquisition is that is the only retainable quality to any item in the game. IOW, if you're not going to use it for glamour, then there is no reason to pursue it. Only other retainable quality I can think of is sentimental, but in that case the player will already have it. Other than that, the item should be currently equipped as it is your current BiS.

OP, even among all the other relics out there, ARR relics are something special. The grind for them, though significantly easier to do now, is still a bit time consuming. The lore surrounding the Zodiac Braves is also really cool to experience if it is your first ARR relic. You will also help new players get through content along the way. It is a very satisfying and rewarding questline to complete.

I highly recommend everyone does at least one ARR relic to completion. You will not regret it. I promise.

If you do the books over time they aren't bad at all. If you try to spam them you will burn out. They are not a lot of fun and require a ton of waiting around for fates. It is definitely worth the time though.

Unless you really want a specific skin or are an irredeemable completionist, i don't know why you would inflict yourself such an awfully designed grind.

I did it once and it will forever be a stain on my FF14 experience. It's just tedious/boring asf and managed to reduce my overall enjoyement of the game at that time.

In the end, i was happier about the fact that this thing was over than to possess the actual relic

Just keep doing it. There's no time limit, do a book each time you play. Honestly once you get past those books it's easier.

If you need a specific fate to pop - just do the other fates on the map. There's a limit to how many spawn, so you'll spawn if quicker by getting rid of the ones already there. No point standing around waiting for it to pop.

I've done the Dragoon one myself, I'd never do another one I don't think. Unless I had absolutely nothing to do in-game anymore

If you like the glam, go for it. It's bit grindy though.

I keep a relic for each expansion active at all times, just for any moment I might feel bored doing something else and maybe decide to climb a step or two.

For ARR, I don't really think the books are all that bad. The leves kinda suck, especially if the one you need isn't on the list and you have to run a different one just to get it up. The dungeons.. a few of them make a nice excuse to run my squadron to boost them up, but obviously they're all quick and easy to unsync, too.

No, the bad parts come after that, when you need all the low level materia. You're either digging into your pockets to shell out for it on the MB, or taking a pretty big detour trying to spiritbond for your own supply. It's doable, but feels awful.
The light phase after isn't much better, either. Obviously nobody's keen to run more Crystal Tower for the biggest gains, but you're still running ARR dungeons repeatedly, leading to burnout fast. Personally, even though FATEs are the worst for light gain, I may still do some of this by grinding skirmishes in Bozja, just for the multitasking...

Overall, relics were absolutely not meant to be busted out all at once. The steps were originally introduced slowly over time, and trying to force the grind is going to be a terrible experience. If you really want one, just keep it on the back burner to chip away at from time to time when you need a break. Let it be something mindless to do while you watch some tv or something.
