Looking for another game to heal in

As a long time healer in other games, i've never really felt that FF does a good job at healer design, but i'm still feeling that itch to play a healer. However, besides the fact that healers are just not engaging whatsoever in FF, i don't want to perpetuate the problem by playing them. So if anyone has some suggestions for other games that features healers but that are well designed then i'd love to give them a shot.

    For reference, these are some of the more prominent games that i have healed in;

    - World of warcraft
    - Overwatch
    - TF2
    - Paladins

Besides that, if games allow for it i will lean into a combat medic themed build. For example, i loved to play a faith build in darksouls and played paladin themed knights in elder scrolls games.

FFXI has healers which heal and do support spells if you are into that, and the game just went on sale for $10 on the SE store.

This isn't a multiplayer game but I do recommend Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

Pathfinder is a tabletop RPG that is like DnD. In fact, Pathfinder's game settings takes a lot of DnD 3.5 Edition. There are a total 25 classes in the game. If you include all the subclasses, the total goes up to 50. But if you want to play as a healer, there are plenty of classes to chose from. You have the Clerics, Paladins, Oracles, Celestial Sorcerers, and so much more. All focus on healing your party and supporting them with a wide arrange of abilities such as DPS spells, enchanting buffs, summons, powerful debuffs.

I play as a Ecclesitheurge Cleric who focuses on slinging holy fire at my enemies while debuffing them with spells like Bane. Occasionally, I would use powerful healing abilities to heal my party if they are low on health.

The game can be a bit difficult to grasp at first, but once you understand the game, it's really fun. Story is good as well as you are fighting in a holy crusade against demons who are invading the human world.

I recommend this to anyone on this forum. Give it a shot if you have time.

I've played through the old Baldur's Gate series several times, both with the typical party of six and as a solo character too. Sorcerers and Wizards in that game (think Black Mage/Red Mage/Summoner) have far more satisfying, powerful, and impactful protective spells, buffs, and health restoring abilities than any healer in FFXIV has had access to in years.

There's SWTOR with its numerous healing sub classes. i believe one of them even lets you do melee combat as well.

I second Pathfinder: WotR and would also add Divinity II to the list.
But pretty much every cRPG works, they all hit this multitasking healer/ support/ damage dealer mix extremely well and which part of that you favour is up to you.

Pathfinder is class-based and you further customize that choice through stats and feats but you can freely combine classes as only very few are alignment-restricted and also have the mythic paths which add different skills, mythic feats etc.; Prestige classes can add even more flavour.
You can play a class pure or Frankenstein dip and take a bit of everything and anything inbetween, that's up to you.
Casters are mainly divived into arcane spellcasters (the "mage" types) and divine spellcasters (the "priest" types) and while divine spellcasters are generally the ones with access to the raw healing abilities (Cure-spells, Channel Positive Energy) in addition to buffs/ debuffs, arcane casters have an incredible and wide selection of very strong buffs and debuffs. Both also have access to summons. There's also a Prestige class that is designed to combine both which is now pretty good with two of the mythic paths.
It also let's you customize the difficulty in addition to having several difficulty presets any time you want.

Divinity II is completely point-based, there are no classes (the presets are simply premade point distributions) so you can freely combine any stat points, abilities, magic schools etc.
There are two main magic schools for armor restoration and healing (Geo and Hydro) but several others also offer good buffs like Pyro gets access to Haste or Aero is extremely good at battlefield manipulation and has a dodge buff and movement speed aura, Huntsman has First Aid, Necro has Bloodsucker.
It also has a co-op if you're looking for playing with others.

Both games also have the option to respec, recruit mercenaries and build your companions, although companions recruited later in Pathfinder have too many levels to completely change their direction without mods.

And Pathfinder is even crazier there. I still have a Mystic Theurge playthrough on my list, probably with Angel merge, just for the absolutely insane amount of buffs/ debuffs/ controls they can throw out.
Throwing a Protection from Energy up last second when a certain fire-breathing menace ambushes you and avoid partywide death by single-digits HP is so satisfying.
But doing things like facetanking a hard-hitter on a Sorcerer with Stoneskin in the BG series was also great.

I can't speak for it's current form, but early BnS had an interesting take on healing, you were pretty much just a DPS caster but with a couple of short cooldown burst heals. Dungeons were pretty good fun and it really allowed you to feel like you were making a genuine impact with your heals allowing the group to take far more liberties whilst also having a pretty punchy kit yourself. I believe the game has gone down the route of having much more fleshed out healing kits now but I haven't tried it to see how well things have turned out.

Warhammer online is still the peak of healing design in a theme park trinity mmo though. The healers were diverse, impactful and were all highly rewarding to play in their own way with lots of room for big risky plays that could really swing things. Anyone who says that classic trinity MMO healers need to be as monotonous as they are in FFXIV would do well to read up on how Warhammer's Warrior and Rune Priests played out. It's a huge shame that EA weren't willing to commit to the running development costs that a theme park MMO demands to succeed.

A surprising number of mmos have actually been ditching healers as a direct class and instead plopping stuff like self heals, pot mangement, or having support classes with a long cd heal or 2 instead...
