So, Ysayle is a Black Mage/Thaumaturge it seems?

So based on a new screenshot from the 6.2 special site, our Heavensward traveling companions will be our trust members. This was expected for the most part. And as Alphinaud and Estinien already have "Jobs" Academician and Dragoon respectively, the only question was, what would Ysayle be. I'm sure most figured she'd be a Black Mage/Thaumaturge, as that job fits her best, and the screenshot seems to prove this. But I have a very odd issue, and wonder how it will be addressed.

So does anyone else feel that Ysayle is the only character that could and should be exclusively an "ice mage"? I mean for players it's a bad thing, but NPCs don't have to play by our rules. I hope SE, makes her just use Ice spells in a unique combo system.

Ysayle has always been a thaumaturge. You only see it in a very brief window of time, but when you raid the Gnath hive to get to Ravana, she's seen in battle stance with that sceptre.

Ah, I never noticed. Well you did say its a brief window.

But what about her being an ice mage?

Lady Iceheart uses a Black Mage scepter, but she's no black mage. Most likely, she'll be reworded due to her summoning background and because her followers treat her somewhat like a Shrine Maiden ("Lady Iceheart").

She would most likely be given a specialized title, something like "Iceheart", "Liberator", "Dreamer", or "Heretic". After all, in a party of 4, she will have to sub between a tank and a DPS.

She is probably able to be tank/caster while Alphi is able to be healer/caster for the times that it is just the three of them with us. Because having just her be an All-Rounder (three roles) would still cause a conflict with Alphi when we want to play healer unless he is also flexible.

No, there are already cases of people using 2 different roles. Ex: Exarch in Holminister Switch, Venat, and Emet-Selch in Ktisis Hyperboreia. Since Ysayle is also from the area of Ishgard, it's not absurd to assume she will just be the default Gladiator/Paladin but using gear made of ice rather the light, as well as using Summon-specific shiva abilities. The Exarch is the closest you get to someone using "Paladin-themed abilities" but his equipment is generated with light-magic... so you can assume even though he's classified as a paladin, his abilities were just extrapolated from his allagan experience. Emet-Selch is the exact opposite, using Dark-themed abilities that resemble Dark Knight. He's no Dark Knight, but his abilities are all derived from the underworld due to his role in the Convocation, so his skills are similar enough to look like a Dark Knight and be grouped by it.

As Shiva (ARR fight), she has a sword and shield in sword stance, so it stands to reason that she can be a Paladin but just ice themed.

If she ws a black mage, she'd deal very low dps, since she'd only ever be in ice fase.

Ok jokes apart, she's certainly not a black mage, might be a thaumaturge but it's more likely that she'll get assigned a custom job as others said, since she seems to do her own thing.
