    FFXIV Endwalker = FFIV Remake???

Endwalker is definitely very heavy on the FFIV influence, especially with what's coming in 6.2! FFIV is my favorite Final Fantasy so needless to say I'm hella excited. Anyone else dying to see how everything turns out? Also, where do you think the MSQ is going to take us? FFIV HYPE!

FFXIV is like FFIX in that references and celebrates the entire FF series including FFIV, but yeah EW was rather heavier on the FFIV references than usual (hearing the litereal SNES FFIV battle theme in Bestways Burrow alone made me smile ).

Given Yoshi has stated that we're moving into a 'new scenario' now (what he terms 'Season 2'), it remains to be seen how the story is going to go, but more references to past FF games will be a part of that.

I can't say I share the same enthusiasm, with them deciding to give G'raha of all people the Rosa teleport scene and making the moon revolve more around Loporrits than Zodiark, who is more central to the game's narrative. Golbez, assuming he retains the name in this game, is likely tied in with the Trial series as would be appropriate and the MSQ will...focus on the void. Instead of something more grounded and more fitting to the whole "adventure" thing we were supposed to be going on.

In retrospect they could have retained the adventure feel and paid tribute to FFIV by having us go on a more intimate journey starting off with Estinien as our first party member, doing a relatively small job in the line of mercenary work. Perhaps it involves raiding a smaller settlement and causing a Mysidia situation whether deliberately or by accident, and this could've explored more of Estinien's soldier-like mentality and contrasted with the Wol's ideals. That, or perhaps going off to hunt a rogue beast whose murder has unforseen consequences like the Mist Dragon, which unfortunately was already used in the Burn.

FFXIV is in a position right now where no amounts of callbacks to previous titles will be enough to retain my long-term attention, sadly. They need to do a lot of work to restore the trust and confidence that was lost when 6.1 did not deliver on Yoship's various promises, from that of new characters (whether callbacks to other FF games or not), a supposed "cool moment" for Thancred that never materialized, and a return to being an ordinary adventurer.

Yes! I felt FFIV was one of the biggest "earlier" games in the series that hadn't seen many references yet in FFXIV, so I've loved seeing the callbacks in EW. The loporrits, the town and battle themes, and I definitely got major FFIV vibes during the phase transition in the final trial (that cutscene in FFIV is one of my favorite parts of any FF game in the whole series - so I was like "YES!!!" during that trial). The "four fiends" reference in what's coming down the pike in 6.2 and beyond also has me excited. Let's go

It's going amazingly well so far, so...

With a playerbase this large, there will never be something that everyone agrees on, but the overwhelming response practically everywhere outside of this echo chamber of negativity that is the forums has been incredibly positive toward the references to past games, the overall storyline, and the various fan-service tidbits they've included along the way. It's kinds humorous to see the actual shock some people here experience when polls are done and it turns out people far, far, far and away love the game and the very characters the naysayers here love to hate.

I’m sorry but what justification could there possibly be for Loporrits taking up more time than Zodiark on the moon? References are one thing but a line was crossed there that shouldn’t have been.

The aspects unique to FFXIV should not have been cast aside like that, especially in the manner they went about on the moon.

Whether shocking or no, my stance on this game remains unchanged in that it needs to work hard to restore my confidence. Disregarding negative feedback is not how this game will see continued improvement - the fact that it is discounted up to 50% off in Japan right now could be seen as cause for alarm.

Perhaps instead of chasing after references, they should do more to develop FFXIV’s characters and plot in order to establish and sustain more long term interest. Though admittedly, I’ll gladly take a Rosa or Rydia over Y’shtola, the sole adult female scion in our current party. Those heroines were far more palatable and memorable than her.

This game is a fanservice galore. It's influenced by every FF game in existence at this point.

Ff14 wears the classic FF titles like a skin suit because it has no confidence in itself. You'd think after 4 expansions they'd have dropped the needless fanservice (I dont need to be reminded how much better other FF stories are, thanks) but I guess not. To add as well, they throw in references everywhere but completely miss the mark as to why people liked the original content in the first place. Take something like Anima from FFX. Super cool summon, really interesting backstory relevant to the plot, hidden in side endgame content. When Seymour summons it in the arena, I remember being blown away. And Dark Anima is no joke, with auto-petrify on hits, a 99999x something limit break etc. What did we get in 14? A bloody dungeon boss. And a pitifully easy one at that. I'd have rather they didn't include it...
