Moonfire Faire 2022 "Summer Sunset Bottoms" should be two separate items

the point is that it should be different gear in the inventory slot so you don't have to "choose" between the two and actually wear both, and since they are already two different models shows that there's nothing stopping them from making them two separate items rather then...well...they making it two separate items.

Two separate items in two body types equal to four items (more than four considering that different races have different bodies). Items aren't going to model themselves. People are basically asking SE to take double effort and double resources as if it was nothing.

I stand by what I said. If there are resources to make 2 items as it's always the case (2, not 4), then I like them looking different from time to time, instead of all of them looking masculine as with the majority of sets.

While its all well and good to say "just make the sets usable for both sides", it simple wouldnt work. No male version would be using the bikini top, and no female version could just have a completely open chest.

I'm not asking for the entire set to be duplicated. Most of it would be pointless. I already said that in the OP.

I am asking for the pants and only the pants to be duplicated, because it essentially already is two very different items.

It's a pointless technicality to make. Functionally the character's gender dictates whether you can equip "the shorts" or "the bikini" whether it's one item or two truly genderlocked ones.

If it were two items, each gender-locked, they would be differentiated in the actual item database -- they'd each have a page on the Lodestone -- and there would be the potential down the road to add the missing gendered models and thus make them available to both men and women.

The fact that it is one item means they cannot ever do that with these specific items; if you were to turn it into two items, you'd need to either make the one that already exists the shorts (meaning any women who wanted the bikini briefs would be stuck with the shorts) or the bikini briefs (meaning any guys who actually wanted the shorts would have the speedo).

Not an insurmountable problem if you make them something you can trade at the Calamity Salvager to flip to the other one, but still a giant headache for everyone involved; I feel like it would be more likely they'd just reuse the models for unisex items at some future event.

So from the standpoint of "women can only wear the bikini briefs" at the present moment, yes, I grant you that having one item with two separate gender-locked models is fundamentally the same thing as having two items where you just couldn't equip one. But from the standpoint of any potential future changes, it's the difference between "women can only wear the bikini briefs for now" versus "women can only ever wear the bikini briefs".

Definitely, and that's what I'm hoping can happen.

It's silly to pick on someone for calling the gear genderlocked in this situation where the inventory item might be unisex, but the clothing it represents is not.

The difference between giving it to us as one "unisex" item or two genderlocked items isn't the difference between whether the gear is genderlocked or not, but whether there's room to change it in the future.

Yeah here to say again I'd have been far happier if both got the shorts to begin with
We already have a ton of tiny underwear options for the ladies, and hardly any cool shorts that actually go past the knee
Like I won't say I'd never use the bikini bottoms, but I'd definitely use the shorts

Viera use Midlander skeletons as well (and share their designs for the hempen underwear sets). Hrothgar have Roegadyn skeletons.

It's just fashion. Nothing to do with morality. Shorts are beachwear for men and bikinis are beachwear for women.

Not as exclusively as that picture suggests, though.

The other choices might be a minority but they're still an option that people have.

Also, within the game, Moonfire styles have gone from effectively giving both genders "bikinis" (for lack of a better description of those skimpy two-piece men's sets) to giving men more loose shirts and shorts, but women don't get the same variation, particularly for the bottom half of the gear.

I want to voice the opposite opinion. If they only have resources to make 1 model of each (which tends to be the case in events, nothing wrong with that), I'd rather they don't make both sets identical, for that means the set will look masculine. The majority of sets are already masculine looking; females have more trousers to choose from than anything else. So I for one enjoy the differences in some glamour sets!

I don't think there's anything specifically masculine-looking about those pants, but in any case, my point is that even if they only have the resources to make single-gender models now, making them separate inventory items means that they have the option of revisiting them later and adding in the other gender's model – like they have been doing with an increasing number of older sets already.

By creating it as a single inventory item, they can't do that later.

I also don't think the pants look like every other set of pants. That pattern is unique.

And if you're going for the "it looks the same as what we already have" argument, then I'll point back to the fact that we already have at least four minimally different designs of bikini briefs already. They're not identical exactly, and I can see that the new one has a unique pattern on it to tie into the top, but it's as similar to the others as the pants are to existing pants.
