We have our reasoning for the application but it's not what you think. Since we're global LS, the website serves as a communication hub for us outside of the game. I have found that it's much more difficult to get folks to sign-up for the website after they are in the LS than beforehand. If members don't have a forum account they miss out on a lot of information about linkshell events and so forth.
The application process itself actually serves as a way to get information out to my officers and to the applicant. It's not really for approval/denial based on it's contents.

I guess application makes sense for big LS, not as useful for LS 15-20 people range (not counting 18 mules). That and almost everyone online 24/7.
