What's your opinion on commendations?

I run away from commendations.

The moment the duty ends, I'm just spamming the duty info so I can leave as fast as possible. It's worse if I'm playing a healer, because for some reason people in the game like commending the healer just for existing. At least that's been my experience; if I play healer, I tend to get far more commendations than on other roles.

And for no real good reason either. "You kept the party alive" is such a low bar. Yes, that's literally the bare minimum, it's the job description I took when queueing for the content as a healer. Even when absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happens; I didn't exert myself to heal the tank. I didn't struggle with keeping people alive during mechanics. Mob pulls and heal checks weren't really that over the top either. I just did what you'd expect me to do: I kept people alive, and did damage in the process when it wasn't necessary for me to heal. It's no different than the tank who used cooldowns while pulling or the DPS who was invested in dealing damage and ending the pulls faster.

I don't need commendations. I have the mentor status, though I mostly just hang around sprouts to give them the level up buff and some tips on their classes as they start out. Even if they bumped the mentor requirements I still wouldn't need them.

I didn't farm commendations for my mentor status either, I simply did content. I healed a lot, I've done PvP since Heavensward, I was as courteous a tank as I could be, and I helped people out even as a DPS. But, not to harp on the community's own self-conceited ways, that's the bare minimum for a game known for its "nice" community. It's not about pride or bragging about it, it's just what anyone else would do. It's being courteous: if people have an issue, why not talk things out? If they listen, great. If not, too bad, can't help everyone.

It's just awkward. I don't want to be given commendations, because there's simply no real need for them. And it especially pains me when I feel like sprouts and less experienced players "wasted" their chance to commend someone I personally feel was better and did a far better job at being helpful. So I try to get away from the duty as fast as possible the moment it ends. I'm sorry if I'm being rude, but I just don't want people to commend me. It feel undeserved and it's just weird considering it's not doing anything. I could have helped someone I thought would make a good mentor (and I knew wanted to be) reach it. But instead I'm left feeling like I took their opportunity.

I do wish, however, that they'd let us give commendations to other people. It's probably a weird idea, I'll admit, but let's be honest, the hell am I meant to do with these? Yes, great, thanks for your appreciation, I really don't feel like I deserve it though? There's other people I know that would DEFINITELY make a better mentor than me, and they can't because I happened to get it.

I'm not a pro at the game, I do savage only on occasion. I'm nowhere near a whiz that can definitely answer questions about every single aspect of the game. I just like being helpful, but to me, that's no different than being friendly. So commendations really feel like are wasted on me.

Sometimes I remember to give one, sometimes I forget. Some people hardcore farm them for an ego boost, some people just don't care about them. I think their only purpose is to have achievements that give mounts and glamour and if you care about mentor status I guess that is a thing too.

Eh, kinda just dont care about them. You do bring up a good point about how you wish you could give them to people who deserve them more/ could actually use them, but I think that speaks more to the commination requirement for mentor being just bad then them being bad in its self. Comms serve no real purpose then getting the couple of rewards attached to them and, if someone chooses, going for mentor. But they can be so easily farmed with little to no thought in content that really dosent take any sort of skill that I feel its an awful way to gauge a players experience. Go do palace of the dead for a day as a healer and boom, loads of comms easy. Same with being a healer/tank in leve roulette. I think they should be relegated to just a way to earn a couple rewards and nothing else.

The only purpose for me is getting the challenge log exp for handing out 5 a week. Once that‘s done or every job is at lv cap I insta leave every duty after it‘s completion.

Commendations are nice concept in theory but completely fall apart in practice and are practically worthless.

People give comms for the strangest reason that have nothing to do with thinking that player was a especially valuable during the run.
And harsh as it sounds but most players wouldn't recognize good gameplay if it slapped them in the face with a 10ft pole with fancy lights and sound effects. That RDM/ SMN that silently ressed without some obnoxious 5 line macro, the tank that spot healed someone with vuln stacks before an aoe and saved them from dying, the phys ranged/ melee that had Arm's Lengths & Bloodbath ready when they had aggro or the tank went down, a well-timed and aimed Rescue that prevented a death, the dps that just deleted pulls, the healer that carried most of the healing without ever dropping dps, are all players that will likely go unnoticed.
People comm for exp, for glam/ name/ race etc but rarely do I see well-deserved comms for someone that played well.

Comms are and always will be a terrible metric for gauging someone's skill or ability to be a good mentor and it's best to be aware of that.

I main healer and I rarely get them. Granted, I don't look for them, nor do I spam guildhests. Also, I've been told it might be because I am second on the list of healers. It does feel good on the RARE occasion that I do get commendations after saving the party or something along those lines. Very rarely do I think I get a commendation due to my performance however. If anything most commendations I get are at random. I put almost no stock in them, but I want them for achievement rewards, and to have them.

I leave straight away, I don't really have a need for them after getting the achievement.

I have around 4700, which isn't that much compared to the number of instances I've done.

They don't really mean anything either. It's like likes on internet posts.
