Hell, I'm purposefully trying to get all the way to Crystal right now so when the patch comes, I never have to do ranked again because I NEVER want to deal with that nonsense, as it's already infuriating enough to go from the top of a rank to the bottom of the risers. Dropping ranks is something I never want to deal with in CC, and it is very likely going to kill ranked for a lot of players, which results in less players, which results in less matches, which leads to ranked CC going the way of Feast, a dead PvP mode.
Even with teammate randomness all of the S1 top players are back where they were. Getting bad teammates or having to play vs someones alts will slow the progress down, that's all it does.

This season I got very late start due the mess with the server transfers, it took me 50 some wins to get back there because I kept facing another people who got their rank reset from transfers, so we kept killing each others streaks occasionally. Previously I did it in something like 39 during late season on different DC when aside from rare alt the opponents were fairly easy most of the time.

Deranking means very little if you care for the end of season rewards as with 6.2 your highest achieved rank will count regardless, the most important thing is that it keep the complete dead weights out instead of having them hang in Crystal 0 rating and sabotaging games for the highest rated players because the game will try to even out the team ratings and keeps pushing them or Diamond players into 3k+ rating people's teams.

As for ranks themselves, Crystal is completely meaningless with the amount of players that got it in Season 1. Someone posted the public achievement data and about half of the players who even played Ranked beyond the very first unranked tier got Crystal with the remainders getting equal split each.
