There is no difference until its 0%, then you get 0 stats.

I find the whole system a bit useless tbh! It is just a complete negative thing to me, i dont bother really finding repairs because the whole request repair is stupid, if i have couple items 0% but some at 98% the request puts them all up, so i loose out for 2%... Dumb, so I just go to NPC, the expensive is nothing to the amount to the amount I gain, its like 1% of a gil sink to me.

I wouldnt miss it if it was gone.

    1. No, it don't need 100% to transform it into materia.

There is no incentive and honestly even 200% isn't enough of an incentive to bother with player repair and if player repair added buffs it would then become a chore that elitist parties will absolutely require for optimal party play... I say just let both player and NPC repair to 100% and be done with it. This doesn't have to be made as complicated as it has been.
    You do it wrong
If you put the gear to repair in your retainer someone with the right crafting class need to visit the room your retainer is. But nowdays most people only visit the search corner. Put the gear to repair in your own bazaar, run through Ul'dah and shout for repair. And don't forget to mention the 5k gil reward.

There isn't much of an incentive to resell in the AH to be honest.

    Then don't resell
If you don't want to resell, the repair NPC is all what you need.

You mean there isn't much of an incentive to sell your low level junk. Which is correct, you could easily just convert it into materia. But for real gear, it does become important.

Agreed. I think they've reached a balance finally... There was a point where NPC repairs where way too expensive and crappy to be worth anything, I like it as it is now.

How it is now is pretty much a dance around simplicity though... Nothing would change except the NPC's give you 1% more at the click of a button as apposed to the mundane task of getting a player character to repair it. All other games see the simple logic in this and allow both... so why isn't it the same? This type of uniqueness is useless.

I think if they allowed repairs without the need to change classes it might be a little easier. Player repairs are nice because you can do it in the field, but it takes a lot of time change classes and repair everything one at a time.

They should have a "Repair All" button, that lets you repair everything that you are high enough to repair, and you should be able to do it without changing classes. I'm not saying any class should be able to repair anything, just that you shouldn't need to change classes. For example, if I have a 50LTW, and 50ARM, but I am on my 20LNC, I should be able to hit repair button and repair all Leather, and Armorer items at the same time without changing to those classes.

You have plenty of gil for NPC repairs right now, but try doing some end game fight which you are still learning, dying over and over again and paying NPC 5k for each gear slot you have over and over again. Then you see why people use player repairs. :P

I agree with those saying the repair system is fine.... except for the nuisance crafters face when trying to repair stuff... it makes no sense to shift to your gear for each repair. I understand that the gear a crafter chooses may not be his best choice, but for the repair all option everyone wants, it would do no harm to assume they don their best gear for each repair and just do it instantly. Otherwise, most crafters don't want to stop someone for half an hour while they figure out each change and repair. And I am assuming they are using macros. Several times I tried to repair someone and they ran off in the middle of being repaired. This is the flaw in the current system.
