There's something that people are failing to realize, although somewhat understandable because it hasn't exactly been mentioned. You all know, the odds of 2.0 being released with a slower pace of leveling ALONG with a level cap to at least 55 or 60 is very HIGH. Most likely there will be a good amount of story content with the release of 2.0, leaving us busy with a few somewhat clever fights to show off what the 2.0 client can do. I'm thinking 1 battle requiring 8 people vs a massive amount of enemies on screen at once to show off the ability to have a ton of characters on screen at once. Tutorials to teach us the new UI designs and other new things. You better believe they won't forget tutorials. And of course, like I said, grinding for at least the first month of the release of the game so even veteran players will have something to do.
I'm saying it right now. 2.0 will be released with a level cap increase. That will be our time killer. Then there will probably be a small dungeon similar to the style of DH, except probably with more production value in it, to show off something else that 2.0 has to offer. Then the real content will come after that.

To be honest, I like the game at the moment. It is not that time consuming and enjoyable. However, there is room for improvements such as more world wide events would make the game better. Like in FFXI, there was besieged, campaign, znm, salvage, einherjar, hnms(but no lame 20hr+ pop please or world wide pop) back when I played @ 75cap. The things you can do are endless. But right now there are just barely 2 things to do: Cutter's cry and Aurum Vale. During the down time when people are either offline or bored of running dungeons, I kind of want a variety other than chasing after lala's and miqos in uldah.

Everything you said in your post, appeals to me. I hope it is true. There's something that people are failing to realize, although somewhat understandable because it hasn't exactly been mentioned. Conclusion of the Unbilled Period and Commencement of Subscription Billing
The unbilled period has remained in place for the past year as our development and operation teams of over 250 staff have worked to bring you FINAL FANTASY XIV. I apologize for the belated nature of my next announcement, but as significant updates to the game have been released over the last ten months, a portion of the team has also been simultaneously devoted to working solely on the new FINAL FANTASY XIV. This is an essential part of the process of realizing the ideal we have envisioned. Planning for the new FINAL FANTASY XIV began in January of this year, and April saw the start of large-scale tasks. Since then, however, we have made no compromises in the game’s operation and updates. I believe this is evident if you review the contents of the updates that have been released thus far.

The day i saw the new area design PDFs i was sold.
To me, storyboarding is everything that glues the rest together.
Take Xenoblade for example. Great premise, graphics, music and an entertaining battle system,
but shit storyboarding took the area progression in a boring, linear design that never surprised.
As a result, it's gigantic areas were like the current FFXIV, beautiful and mostly empty.
Its battles were interesting, but never made use of more interesting mechanics brought by progression changes.
(What is it about the surrounding area and circumstance that CHANGES the battle?)
Music was wonderful, but its placement more or less meaningless.
etc, etc,
As opposed to Xenogears. That game had purpose.
Now FFXIV 2.0, from the area PDFs we got some time ago, shows complete areas. Every corner of every zone, and there will be a lot of them is packed with SOMETHING interesting. Go take a look if you haven't. It speaks for itself.
Mind, if you don't like where the battle system is going, then you have a concern to consider, but every corner of these maps is a place. Even the tiniest sidequests will be more interesting when you go there. And the devs, when writing a scene, will be looking at them and writing better stories because of the inspiration they give. The music will finally have a place to fit more than it does currently, etc, etc, etc.
And generally speaking, by replacing the server system, i would think that the new one will be good. I really don't think they're going to screw something that basic up this time.
ALSO, the UI is going to be open to user mods, meaning, even if you don't like the UI, chances are you can go to X site and download a UI mod that is to your liking.
In other words, it's my feeling that unless you have substantial problems with the current direction of the battle system, 2.0 will deliver.

I'm going to say this plainly.
A lot of people are going to be disapointed with 2.0. Period.
Why? Inflated expectations.
What Yoshi P and the crew are doing is monumental, but most of it is backroom reworking. Those who are wise and took the time to read the outline and not expect much more than that, will be happy when the patch comes.
Those who think 2.0 will be FFXIV's saving grace and will turn water in to wine? As well as those think that SE 'better' deliver or else they'll crash and burn? They'll be the ones complaining the loudest on these and other boards on how 2.0 "failed' and how they'll never trust SE again.
This divide among the player base WILL happen, because people are hyping themselves (either positively and will be let down, or negatively and will spot every flaw and absence) - which is the exact opposite to do in these circumstances.
If anyone out there can listen to outside advice, listen to this: Stay neutral. Look at the outline and expect that. Take what comes with a grain of salt and look at what you like before you harp about what you dislike. Make your judgements on what you enjoy in the game, as a whole, before you decide to give a positive or negative outlook. And no matter what you decide, be open minded. Not everyone is going to agree with you, and that's just fine.
Casual play in a casual game wins again!2.0 is really for new players more then for those of us that have been playing for the last 2 years.
yes there will be a good bit of changes. Content wise we won't see to much that will keep us busy.
for the people that have maxed out all classes I see them getting boared again in a few months.
New player will have a much better experiance.

FINAL FANTASY XIV 2.0 will still be FINAL FANTASY XIV.
I think its safe to say that if you dont dig the battle system now, that isn't going to magically change in 2.0. we can trust that all of the dungeons, primal battles and strongholds are going to be in 2.0. These types of contents and their design should be an indicator for what to expect in 2.0.
So far FFXIV 2.0 isn't promising anything all that unique to the genre. The neat (unique) ideas are already in the game (armory, materia grinding, weapon skill combos, subligars, etc) and if you don't already find those to be at least interesting, then that isn't going to change with a new client.
For outsiders and naysayers of FF online games, 2.0 should be promising very simple things: top of the line art production, mechanical polish, and an interesting storyline. The design and flow of content and quest may drastically change, but the core mechanics that we have now will most likely be intact.
I cant wait to fiend on that PvP. >![]()
