Sch rant. I know they are getting old.

So I play scholar allot and I know since it’s been constantly nerfed over every expansion. However I was excited when we got another healer (Sage) then sch was basically out into the support healer with Astro while Whm and Sage are the selfish dps healers. But I don’t feel like sch has constant support like Astrologian. Every 30 seconds they can draw cards. Scholar has nothing like that. I mean if you wanna say sacred soil is it but come on lol. Divination is on a 120 cooldown and that rivals expedient and chain stratagem so that’s fine I guess. But I wish sch had a constant party support ability like Astro.

Also why can’t fey union be an spell ability we can use as a way to constantly heal someone specific. Like if we want her to focus on one person only. Also why can’t sch shields be instant cast? Whm has like 4 heals all instant cast. Astro has a few as well. I know people will say “You shouldn’t be using gcd heals anyway” I know but sometimes you have to and why can’t sch’s shields be instant cast too?

They nerfed the fairy so much it’s just very weak now. I understand Astro needing a rework but scholar needs to be next. It’s a walking mess right now.

The irony of AST that even they aren’t really playing cards every 30 seconds either. You’re hoarding draw charges to ensure you can do a full round of cards every 2 minutes with divination which leaves you with 1 free card in between.

I am inclined to agree that overall, SCH is a far more disjointed mess than AST though. The concern I have is that SE just don’t know what to do with it. What’s the best genuinely new ability it’s gotten since Heavensward? Expedient? Pretty sad state of affairs IMO =/

I honestly don’t think Yoshi P and the rest of the dev team know because he made a comment during the job actions video and jokingly said they don’t know what to do with scholar. So you are absolutely right. Sch needs way more love than it’s gotten these past expansions.

Maybe they are working on it? Just don’t take forever to rework like Astro.

I do agree that Scholar is in a poor state; however I think we can all agree that this is because they largely have no idea what they're doing with the healer role entirely. Does anyone honestly think that they could rework Scholar and have it be better? Just look at Summoner - they threw the baby out with the bath water, and that's exactly what they'd do in a hypothetical Scholar rework. The job is in need of help, but it needs help from someone who understands the job and the role at large. Just look at the last "rework" it got going into Shadowbringers; removing its DPS kit and removing its free healing entirely at 5.0 launch with the removal of Energy Drain and putting the fairies on the oGCD instead of the pet GCD. Does this sound like decisions made by a team you would trust with a Scholar rework? Their understanding of how these jobs play is hilariously baseline and they operate more on their idea of how they want people to play these jobs rather than how they're actually played by the community. "If we remove Energy Drain, Scholars will use all that Aetherflow on healing! Wait, what do you mean they aren't healing at all now... didn't we fix the issue by removing the DPS???"

If they were willing to admit that Scholar was better in the past and decided to go back to old design for a rework, it could work - but we know that they would radically and fundamentally change Scholar, and they would change it to appeal to people who aren't playing Scholar now just like every other rework. They wouldn't be reworking it for your enjoyment.

It's why I really do not want them to rework AST, at least not before SCH. SCH is in a pretty bad shape, and they haven't known what to do for the job since HW. As much as I love several abilities from SB, they proved with the unnecessary MP use/generation nerfs in 4.0 that at base they really did not know what to do with the job. It has only gotten worse since then, and needs a rework. Even then, a rework would likely be disliked by a large majority of the SCH playerbase until we finally settled in to things. Drop AF and make Fairy Gauge the dominant gauge used for everything? It'll be either stronger/weaker than AF now (depending on costs), and people will hate it. Rework their entire healing kit? People who like how SCH feels right now with the tactical part of it would despise it unless it was as deep as SCH's planning can be now. SCH is in a state to where everybody knows it needs to be reworked partially, but it's going to piss off people regardless of which way it goes.

I agree with everything that’s being said here. Thank you guys for your input. I just want SCH to get some much needed tender love and care as they been neglected for way to long.
